' We the yearbook staff of 1966 proudly dedicate the 1965-66 Warebiafz to Miss Les- sie Rasco. Her outstanding service as girls counselor and head of the Future Teachers Organization has distinguished her through her years. Born in Alabama, Miss Rasco moved to the Yakima Valley in her high school years and proudly calls the Valley her home. A graduate of Whitworth College, Miss Rasco came to Wapato twenty-three years ago. During her stay she has taught all levels of English and a year of U. S. History. After several years here Miss Rasco organized the Future Teachers Club and this organiza- tion is still growing. Besides being an asset to the Faculty, Miss Rasco is active in the Wapato Community Presbyterian Church and the Business and Professional Women's Club in Yakima. She has traveled in Europe, Can- ada, Hawaii, Mexico and far up into Alaska. Through her church work and Mother's Reception in the spring, Miss Fasco feels she knows the community well. She said, Wapato and the Wapato Schools have been a vital part of my life for many years. I shall always remember and prize my many friends in Wapato. A The students and community will long remember Miss Rasco and her valuable contribution to the Wapato Schools. HARRY GREGG CHARLES GUTHRIE CHESTER SOLEY, Business Manager and Clerk 70 Students-just one generation ago, when many of your parents were your age, a high school education was con- sidered as adequate preparation in many vocational areas and high school graduates could look ahead with a good deal of assurance to many years of satisfactory and rewarding employ- ment in a field of their choosing. This is no longer true! As a result of the rapid growth of knowledge, and the great technological developments of the present day, employment opportunities for the unskilled and untrained have all but vanished. The high school diploma has become a minimum requirement for even the simplest jobs. Furthermore, employees in all areas of work are being urged to participate in a continuing process of learning and relearning in order that they can keep pace with the growing and changing demands of our economy and of our society. For these reasons the value of yourhigh school education must be judged, not so much on the basis of facts and in- formation which you may have mastered, but rather upon abilities you have developed to understand problems, to solve problems, andemost important-to keep on learnirzg. Superintendent: MR. PHILLIP SYRDAL It seems like only yesterday that I was given my assign- nt for the 1965 yearbook and today I have been asked to ite a message for the 1966 yearbook. I sincerely hope that of our students are alert to the lesson that the passage time gives us. With good planning we can accomplish ch and there will be ample time to attain our goals. The present status of the world situation indicates that we 2 more and more depending upon our youth. As young men d women you will be given many responsibilities in our ietyg and you must be ready to assume this responsibility erever you go. The administration and faculty hope that - tools of learning that we have been able to expose you will make your responsibilities come easier and make your ture a bright and prosperous one. For the administration and faculty I congratulate the class 1966 on the fine record made during the past three years. ur excellent spirit and cooperation has been very gratify- g. For those graduating, and those returning, remember e passes quickly and quietly. I sincerely hope you con- ue to use it wisely. Good luck to all.
