DRILLETTES PERFORM FOR THIRD YEAR Bang! The gun sounded for half-fime, and l heard screams and a scurrying noise on fhe gym floor. Loolcing up, l saw 30 girls in navy-blue and whife uniforms wifh whife hais and over-blouses gefiing info a marching formafion. l wafched infensely as 'fhey sfarfed off leff righf, leff, right and performed a complicafed drill. The whisfle sounded and ihe group began a new maneuver. As fhe girls came near where I was siffing, l heard fhe songleaders say somefhing abour Drilleffes, and lhey fold ihe marchers fo smile, l decided fhen fhai fhis was fhe Drill Team wifh a new name and alrered uniforms. Affer fhe game l learned fhaf Lynda Pafnode was serving as presideni' of fhe group for fhe fhird year and fhaf fhirfeen new mem- bers had been elecfed, raising fhe fofal membership from 24 'fo 30. Mrs. Morrell was chaperone and drill insfrucfor for fhe group while Mr. Warcup acfed as ifs advisor. This year fhe Drilleffes gave half-fime performances af four home games. The dafes were January 2, January I7, January 30, and February 7, when we played Ellensburg, Pasco, Eisenhower, and Richland, respecfively. Janice Giles, Jane Olson, Sue Delozier, Sharon Baasch and ofhers perform af Pasco game.

The F.F.A. Chaprer irself was seleclred for second place honors in rhe sla+e's Bes+ Chaprer Con+es+ and received a silver emblem award on 'rhe narional level. Early in l'he fall lhe group senl' lwo ol ils members, Norman l-lilberl, and Darrell Schoonover, lo fhe Nalional F.F.A. Convenlion in Kansas Ciiy, Missouri. Anorher accomplishmenr of lhe Chapler was 'rhe sponsoring of Hs banquel on March I4, l959. Many F.F.A. members were presenled awards a+ This evenl for rheir pasl year's acrivilies in aqricullure. The Chapler, advised by Blaine l-lardy, also held a local lar-slock show, prepared a boolh and made several enfries in rhe Ceniral Washingron Fair, sponsored a parliamenrary procedure Team conresr, gol foqerher a Chrisr- mas package 'For a needy family, had irs annual Jrurkey raffle, pul on a pep assembly, and carried on irs yearly inifiafion.
