060,31 .- PHILLIP SYRDAL, SUPERINTENDENT . . . Under the capable leadership of Mr. Syrdal. our school has successfully carried forward its purpose of providing for the educational needs of its students. By staffing the school system with well-qualified teachers and by continuously study- ing and evaluating the courses of study, Mr. Syrdal has seen that Wapato has a good educational system. Much of Mr. 5yrdal's time this year has been spent on de- tailed planning with the school board, contractors, and teach- ers on the new million-dollar high school. Mr. Syrdal played a major part in promoting the bond issue campaign and making known the need for a new school. Among many other endless details, Mr. Syrdal must plan for the purchase of materials and equipment, any busses that we need, and he sees that the buildings and grounds are maintained by renovating older portions of existing build- ings and replacing worn desks and other furniture. A strong leader, Mr. Syrdal reflects the quality of Wapato's administrationg he inspires both the faculty and the students to higher goals and greater accomplishments, and he com- mands the respect of all who know him. These five men, devoting hours of time for the betterment of the school and receiving no compensation, represent the community in action. lmportant discussions and plans pertaining to the construction of the new high school building headed the lengthy list of projects carried on by the school board during the past year. These men helped conduct the original study of the growth of the Wapato school system which was published in pamphlet form and was a key factor in promoting the bond issue. lt is the duty of these men to establish the policies of the school. They authorize all financial expenditures and act on all major decisions. They must constantly look into the future to meet the demands of a growing population and new and advanced trends in education. Through unselfish leaders such as these men, Wapato's school system will continue to progress and offer the best possible educational program for its youth.
