The door of opportunity is open to every student; Sandy and Dana have taken advantage of it in the Business Department. Crowded halls are all-too-familiar scenes be- tween classes. One wonders if it is possible to get to his next class in just five minutes! It’s a wonder that our teachers can be so pleas- ant. considering they have such rough jobs! OPENING 5

Inside Look At Wando Because we come to school ev- eryday, we often fail to realize the special points that separate Wando from any other Charleston County school. The most obvious ex- ample of this is the Honors Program. Although many feel there are still some incongruities to be worked out, the program's purpose is to create a strong, challenging curriculum for those advanced students who want to utilize their abilities. Wando is the first school in the county to take this step toward academic excellence, and next year’s graduating class will be the first one with Honors Diplomas. In addi- tion to the honors courses, many AP classes are offered, namely in English, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and U.S. and European History. Some students still choose to take classes at the Col- lege of Charleston. Wando is also the only school in the county to offer four languages: Spanish, French, Latin, and German. As a result of last year's evaluation, Wando is expected to be accredited by the Southern Association of Col- leges and Schools (SACS) sometime in 1985. The administrators and faculty worked extremely hard on this last year and the students appreciate their dedication. Jody Legare captures the attention of his audi- ence. His drama class was doing an exercise in imagination and speaking expressively. Many students take Mrs. Clift's marine biology class in their junior year One reason for its popu- larity is that its subject matter is easy to relate to because we live in a coastal city. 4 OPENING Doug Marek studies surfing. Although the li- brary is mainly for research and studying, stu- dents who finish their work early will always find something else to do

eniors — Finally On Top!! A Alter four tough years, it is finally the year of the CLASS OF 86. At last we are above all the other classes, but we cannot help but look back on the previous years with a feeling of sadness. It is hard to believe how fast the time has flown — only a short time ago we were FRESHMEN, the ones getting lost in the halls, the quietest class at the pep rallies, and the “new kids on the block.” But through three years of killer classes, teachers, and tests, we have managed to excel in every aspect. Our class has pulled together after a slow start to win the spirit award two years and shows no inten- tion of relinquishing the title of “Most Spirited Class. This year promises to be one of great memories (Junior Senior, Senior Cruise) as we realize we will not be together next year. But for now. we are ruling the school as the CLASS OF 86!! Jennifer Cichoki tells another of her wild itories. to the amusement of her friends. Julie studies for her next test, while Kerie hates just thinking about it. Noel Bentle concentrates intently on her music. Norman lives up to his reputation as biggest flirt any place, any time. 6 OPENING
