CELEBRATE SUMMER The summer of 198? seemed short and wet! During a two day span. June 18 and 19. the iowcountry had seven and one halt inches of ram dumped on it by a tropical depression It seemed as if it would never stop raining However, when it did stop raining, many Wando Warriors could be seen wait mg in long traffic lines going to and from the beaches Many a Warrior could be seen strolling the beaches, swimming m the ocean, and sunbathing on the beach Yet. summer was not all fun Many Warriors were busy trying to earn money to spend during the school year Indeed, one could hardly walk into a grocery store without seeing a fellow student employed there. Grocery stores were not the only employers of Wando students Clothing stores, small businesses, camps, and the packing shed hired high school students Many students also earned extra, tax free money by employing themselves — cut ting lawns, raking leaves, and other odd obs Nearly everyone, though, found time — between the ram and work — for some kind of recreation Whether it was going to the beach, playing his favorite sport, or something else — the choice was up to the individual student Nevertheless, as all good things do. the summer came to an end School began the thirtieth of August, and another school year was at hand 1 David Cole works at McDonald's to earn money 2 Summer is work tor Teresa Meares 3.
