Not only did they sell candles to raise money for their treasury, but also took on many other money-raising projects. Winning second place in the spirit chain was an important event for the sophomores, also the winning of the spirit bell in pep rallies more than once. With two more years at Wando, the sophomores were an asset to Wando. After several months each freshman was well into the routines and policies of Wando. Becoming used to a new place was what it was all about, as the freshman showed by winning the coveted spirit bell at more than one of the pep rallies. It is many things . . . It is feeling completely natural with one another, shedding all pretense, and all sham, just being yourself. It is sharing with another both big and little things, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears. — Katherine Nelson Davis Strong as the currents of the river whose name we bear. True to the spirit of our fathers whose fame we wear. When we are all together let the rafters ring to the song we sing, WANDO! Cope with the challenge of the future ’till the work is done; Cheer for the Warriors who battle ’till the prize is won; Then we will shout for joy and make the rafters ring with the song we sing, WANDO! Up from the reaches of the river, lifting with the tide. Rises the fortune of our Warriors, standing side by side; Join hands together and we ll let the heavens ring with the song we sing, WANDO!! He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. 190 mm ★ ★ ★ 8enior Directory ★ ★★ JOHN LUTHER ALL, JR. NANCY ANN YOUNG Our year i$ coming to a close, another page in time. How quickly we have settled into an established routine. Friendships have been made, bonds strengthened, traditions begun. 196 Each group and each personal achievement has given us pride; the pride of achievement. This pride runs like a golden thread through our history, weaving events into memories, weaving people into a nation. Conclusion 199 200 Conclusion 201 Conclusion 203 Has it been a year. . . or a lifetime? We have come a long way to get here . . . yet as we arrive we don't know if it is with sadness or joy. Looking back, it seems we just began the process, and it grew and multiplied into something too mighty for us to comprehend. Freedom — , what will it mean for us in the years to come? We can now choose the course of our life to be any way we desire. The goals, the tears, and the accomplishments all form into one memory... ft We felt that we were ready, absolutely ready to leave. But now as the time approaches, we are not so sure that this is what we want at all. The faces call us into yesterday, and we remember things we thought we had forgotten. Hard times, good times, the darkness and the light, have pushed us to become what we are now. With joy and regret we look back, and know that we can never forget this part of our lives . . . Goodbye, yesterday 10m
