Legend Wando High School Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 1974 Volume I Strong as the currents of the river whose name u t' bear. True to the spirit of our fathers whose fame we wear, When we are all together let the rafters ring to the song we sing. WAN DO! Cope with the challenge of the future 'til the work is done; Cheer for the Warriors who battle 'til the prize is won; Then we will shout for joy and make the rafters ring with the song hv sing, WAN DO! Up from the reaches of the river, lifting with the tide. Rises the fortune of our Warriors, standing side by side; Join hands together and we’ll let the heavens ring with the song we sing, sing, sing. WAN DO! — Alice Cabaniss Yesterday brings dreams of rain. Tearlit, moonlit silver pain. Youth’s sweet years are flying fast. Winds of love cry in the past. Youth is fading — going where? Going where the winds don’t care. Yesterday brings dreams of rain. Tearlit, moonlit silver pain. Youth is standing on the beach. Laughing at me — out of reach. Youth is fading — going where? Going where the winds don’t care. Youth’s now woman, standing proud. Yesterday's a misty cloud. Youth is fading —going where? Going where the winds don’t care. Patricia Irving The Whispering Wind 4 5 Wando Is Dedicated On August 19, Wando High School was officially opened. Joannic Isaac (NP); Feature Editor. Charles Jacob (see ECS) The first year of Wando was also the first year of THE RENEGADE. The name was chosen by the staff and the logo and special print were done by a student, Legare Porcher. With the guiding hand of Teresa Thomas, the first editor, the paper improved with every issue and every form of writing made high scores in statewide grading. It was a very good year for the THE RENEGADE. 140 EDITOR Teresa Thomas The money end of The Renegade, the business staff, headed by Celeste Resch, worked hard to make the ideas of the paper into reality of print. If it were not for the ads raised by the staff in conjunction with local businesses, the small student fee would not be enough to keep the paper going for very long. So in essence it is this group that keeps The Rene- gade a student publication and a free press. We would like to thank the advisors, Mrs. Cabaniss, Miss Brown, Mr. Gable, for with- out their patience, understanding, and guid- ance, The Renegade could not have been possi- ble. And a special thanks go out to Mrs. Alice Cabaniss, our literary advisor, her dedication and caring started The Renegade and her com- plete confidence cradled it to maturity. Thank you for everything, Mrs. G, Miss B., and Mr. G. FRONT: Legare Porcher, Dinky Clausen, Robin Lewis, Warring Howe, Lodema Richard- son, Sissy Graham BUSINESS MANAGER David Burgis David and Martha working on 74 Legend. This year, as in General days past, the annual was made possible by the tireless efforts of the business staff. This year’s Legend business staff went all out. Led by David Burgis; Laura McGuire, Lodema Richardson and Sissy Graham were top sellers, but the rest weren’t far behind. This staff made Legend's first year a great year! Writing an annual involves more work than the surface may reveal. This year’s literary staff, headed by Martha Roberson, has had the foresight and drive to make the first Legend a strong foothold in a hopefully long path. A lot of pains and sacrifices went into the making of this annual and the literary staff can be thanked for their determination and dedication to this important cause. We would like to use this space in the Legend's section to show our appreciation to our sponsor, a dedicated teacher. Miss Berkhan. Without her, nothing would have been possible.
