The following morning came too early for most of us After breakfast at the Forum we walked to the Sherman Hotel to attend the Don McNeil Breakfast Club broadcast. Ann Quamme will perhaps re member the broadcast the most vividly as she had the pleasure of holding two ro mantle leading men of the program on her lap They were the handsome tenor solo ist, and Sam, the funnyman After the broadcast, we visited the Chicago Board of Trade Building and viewed the trading floor and the opening of the grain market We were very much confused by the hand signals and differ ent procedures the buyers and se11ez's used in the pit They then showed us a movie about the place which explained things and straightened many of us out In the afternoon we went on a boat cruise on Lake Michigan The cruise took us through the locks and out into the lake from where we viewed the Chicago skyline and points of interest along the way The remainder of the afternoon and evening was spent as we wished Some again went shopping and others went to the Art Institute In the evening most of the seniors went to shows. Wednesday morning we dragged anselves out of bed and packed our things W started an all day sightseeing tour by touring the near north side of Chicago and stopped at the Chicago Historical Society From there we went to the Lin coln Park Zoo and there spent a good deal of time going through the different buildings They d1dn't keep any of our group there for exhibition in any of the buildings Noon lunch was served to us at the Museum of Natural History After the lunch we toured the museum we went to the Aquarium and Planetarium and saw many more interesting things From there noses and found two of our flock among the missing Sharon Langeness and Marie Froisland were nowhere in sight Seems they were waiting for the bus on the wrong side of the building After find ing them we continued our tour along the Gold Coast area where the wealthy people of Chicago reside. Next we visited the Museum of Science and Industry There we saw ourselves on television, chicks in the process of hatching, a German submarine, a doll house, a modern farm, and many more interesting and education al exhibits By the end of this tour we were more than ready to return to the hotel After doing our last minute shopping and eating supper, we said our final goodbyes to Chicago and boarded the bus which took us to the Union Station to catch our train back home The train left at eleven o'clock for Red Wing, Minnesota and home The following morning, April 18, at seven o'clock, thirty six seniors and three chaperons, bleary eyed and tired, staggered off the train, glad to be home but with many wonderful memories of our tzip to the nation's second largest metropolis IREREIBXREIIKMMREBX I9 . . e .we I At eight o'clock that evening we as- When we were ready to go we counted LEDICTGRIAN SALUTATORIAN Aw 'FPPM r.,.,., C3 :E Ee Hi QE E5 a Gary Howard Hoven, the valedictorian of the 1957 graduating class is the son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Hoven of Wanamingo village He entered wanamingo school in the first grade and is one of the five honor students out of a total of nine who be gan and completed their education in our school While in high school he has distin guished himself by participating in many extra curricular activities, namely, mu sic, athletics, dramatics, publications, and student government After graduation Gary plans on con tinuing his education at St Olaf col lege at Northfield Scholastically, he achieved a four SHARON YVONNE LANGENESS SALUTATORIAN The salutatorian of the 1957 graduat ing class, Sharon Yvonne Langeness is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Manley J Langeness of Wanamingo Sharon is another one of the honor students who began and finished her edu cational career in the Wanamingo commun ity schools This young lady has also distinguished herself in the many activities in which she participated while in high school She took part in dramatics, pubhcations, and music particularly She was one of the outstandlng students in the music department of the school Sharon also plans on continuing her education at St Olaf college next fall The salutatorian's average was 914 89' year average of 95 166i 20 N 4 n . , 5- ', 'l , ',. gg A S AD .ff ' ' 4 'Wm -lx , ' KI if .I W xf N l 1 Es: , gm gf fr as ' 1 3 if A if HONOR STUDENTS 21 Seated Karen Gulsvig, Gary Hoven, Valedictorian, Sharon Langeness, Salutatorian, Shirley Grove Standing Lawrence Hjermstad, Kenneth Syverson, Clifford Nelson, Charles Sundry, David Borgschatz KAREN GULSVIG Scholastic Average 91 921 Rank in Class th Parents Mr 8: Mrs J K Gulsvig GARY HOVEN Scholastic Average 95 1661 Rank in Class lst Parents Mr 8: Mrs Glenn Hoven SHARON LANGENESS Rank in Class 2nd Parents Mr dc Mrs Manley J Langeness SHIRLEY GROVE Scholastic Average 91 11 Rank in Class th Parents Mr 8: Mrs Arvin Grove LAWRENCE HJERMSTAD Scholastic Average 92 771 Rank in Class th Parents Mr Bc Mrs Lars Hjermstad KENNETH SY V 5 RSON Scholastic Average 92 832 Rank in Class th Parents Mr 8: Mrs K L Syverson CLI FFORD NELSON Rank in Class th Parents Mr 8: Mrs Joseph Nelson CHARLES SUNDRY Scholastic Average 9k hh?
