NATIONAL HONOR SOCIET Y- The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in high school students of America. The emblems are the keystone and the flaming torch. The four cardinal princi- ples of this organization are: CHARACTER, SCHOLAR- SHIP, and SERVICE. Members of this year's National Honor Society, from 1. to r. are; Steve Vincent, Jim Zeller, Roger Farrell, Danny Madorin, Tim Hund, Kirk Bradford, Rick Doll, Bob Mertz, Earl Glynn, Vickie Scofield, Julie Grothjan, Kathy Bahner, Debbie Grothe, Cindy Worrel, Maureen White, Ron Solt and Tom Mertz. Nick Doperalski proudly displays his art exhibits. Nick did well this year , taking first place in the Kansas Fed- eration of Women's Clubs-winning the Senior Scholarship award of $100. Nick also won an award of merit along with Phyllis Trudell at a contest given by the Kansas Cultural Arts Commission. 4

Earl Glynn received many recognitions in his science work. Just a few of them are: Grand Award in Salina Regional Science Fair, 1970, Inter- national Science Fair finalist, 1970-Baltimore, Maryland, N. A.S.A. and N. S. T.A. Youth Congress, 1970-71, Leonard Nehring Science Award, Awarded Outstanding Science Students-L. TO R. j Scott Holliday, Bob Owens, David Hinson, Danny Guth, Mike Baker, Leroy Goehring, Kim Bandyk, Earl Glynn. Not pictured here; Gary Boutz and Jerry Borgendale. Most valuable player award-Tim Hund. $2,200.00 worth of sch- olarships, and was selected one of top two science students in the state of Kansas. Earl also received the Tomorrows Scientist and Engineer Award. Another outstanding student in science is Gary Boutz. Gary was a 1971 Inter- national Science Fair finalist and was a grand award winner in the Topeka Regional Science Fair. Outstanding Sportsmen! An outstanding FHA'er. Highest woodworking award, Steve Vincent.
