Grothe. 2 to State Regional Team: D. Birk, J. Birk, R. Doll, T. Asbury, D. Grothe, M. Asher. This year tennis was the best it has been since it was started four years ago. There was one duo, seven tournaments, Regionals, and State that the team participated in. The Varsity won at Concordia and took second in the Wamego Invitational meet. The B-team won at Wamego and took second at Wahbum. The Frosh won at Wamego. Dan Birk, Jeff Birk, Rick Doll, Terry Asbury, Doug Grothe, and Mark Asher were on the Regional team. Doug Grothe and Mark Asher took second at Regionals and went to State in the Doubles. Coach Holmes was very proud of all his boys, but especially of Doug and Mark. Freshmen: S. Sackrider, R. Girls First at Shawnee Hts Jr. Lynn Wilhite high jumps. Freshman Candy Piper broad jumps. The girl's track team participated in five meets. Wamego sponsored an invitational meet and had some outstanding competition. Girls from a large radius of Wamego came to participate. At the Shawnee Heights Relay, for the second time in three years, the Wamego girl's relay team won the girl's 440 yd. relay. This year Jean Glynn, Lynn Whilhite, Dianna Fouraker, and Debbie Eichem burnt the track. Debbie Eichem and Candy Piper did well in several meets in the running broad jump and Lynn Wilhite did well in the high jump. Girls participating in track were Mary Ann Hund, Lynn Whilhite, Dianna Fouraker, Jean Glynn, Donna Fouraker, Candy Piper, Paula Glynn, Cathy Peter- son, Cheryl Baker, Debbie Eichem, Mary Kemnitz, Pam Daylor, Linda Haynes, Cindy Worrel, and Susie Smith. 21 Freshman Debbie Eichem finishes well in 100 yard dash.

Golf Has Good Season HACK ROW, L TOR.: R. Farrell, B. Bartlow, J. FRONT ROW: R. Brazier, R. Elder, P. Christman, Grace, K. Bradford, D. Parker, T. Demetri on, S. Bradford. This year's golf team traveled all over to compete in golf meets. Despite the rain and the wind, which always seemed to come on the days of the golf meets, the boys did rather well. In the Council Grove meet, the fourman team, which was David Parker, Kirk Bradford, Steve Schumaker, and Tom Demetri on, place third. Steve Schumaker won first place at the Wamego Invitational meet and also won first at the league meet. Kirk Bradford was the captain of the team. Coach Lee had five guys that lettered. Coach took his Freshman golfers to a meet in Sabetha but none of them placed. 23 What a golf ball!
