Coach Lee said his team was ready, but the Braves from Council Grove had a different idea. They had the Raiders stunned from the opening kick-off, and finished off the evening with a 34-16 win. The Braves left the Wamego fans wondering what the rest of the season would be like. They soon found out as the Raiders won, very convincingly, the next five games. For Homecoming, the Raiders took on the Osage City Indians. The Raiders skunked them 31-0. The game was viewed by many alumni as they came for the Homecoming festivities. Linda Herman w as crowned queen and reigned over the victorious game. The four co-captains, Brad, Ron, Nick, and Kirk, had lead their team through some difficult games and the Raiders found themselves tied with Marysville for the league title. They traveled to Effingham to face the Tigers. The game ended in a tie. Then the Raiders met the Marysville Bulldogs and came out of the game with their second defeat, as Marysville stomped them 36-12. The Raiders bounced back though by winning their last game 28-0 and had an overall season record of 6-2-1. At the end of the season, Ron Solt, Nick Doperalski, and Randy Tessendorf made all league team. Kirk Bradford was named Best Lineman, Nick Doperalski was Most- Inspirational Player, Ron Solt was named Best Back, and Randy Tessendorf was Most Improved Player. Brad Eckart won the Southall Award which is in honor of John Southall who was killed in the war. 12 Coach Lee looks over players. Tired Ron? Touchdown! It presented an outstand- ing drama of a community who all contributed to the death of a young boy. The janitor of the school is put on trial for the murder of the boy. As the trial progresses the audience learns of everyones contribution to his death. The tear jerking preformance of Dean Plagge brings the curtain down as he tells how he helped to kill his own son. Sing Out The Red Raider Choir had a very busy year. They sang at the Thanksgiving assembly and also for an assembly at the grade school. The Varsity Glee Club sang at the grade school too. The Red Raider Choir gave two concerts, The Sounds of Christmas and the spring Sing-out Concert. They performed on W. I. B. W. TV at Christmas time. They went on a very enjoyable singing tour in March to Alma High School, Eskridge High School, and St. Mary's High School. The N. C. K. L. League Vocal Music Clinic was hosted by Wamego in February. At the Baccalaureate Service, they sang You'll Never Walk Alone. The Red Raider Choir combined with the Girl's Glee Club and Varsity Glee Club, sang Battle Hymn of the Republic and Climb Every Mountain. The Varsity Glee Club performed at the Christmas program, spring concert, and also went on the singing tour with the Red Raider Choir. The Girl's Glee Club sang for the Christmas program and in the spring Sing-out concert. The girls had a very fine group this year. Eighteen members were selected out of the Red Raider Choir to form a mixed ensemble. They called themselves the Patriots. They sang for two banquets, the Y-teens Father- Daughter Banquet and the Music Banquet. They performed in the spring concert, at the N. C. K. L. clinic and sang on the tour. Even though they didn't travel a great deal, they had a lot of fun and enjoyment by being in this group. Science Club Patriots This year WHS had an outstanding science club. Science Club was under the direction of Mr. Loren Riblett and Mrs. Sue Mosher. The Science Club listened to many interesting lectures, so interesting that they didn't even mind getting out late for lunch. We owe a lot to our excellent science department. The Patriots, a revival of the mixed ensemble, appeared at WHS this fall under the direction of Mrs. Jane Liljegren. The Patriots entertained at numerous parties and dinners and also preformed at the three concerts held at the high school. The sparkling style and modem songs of this group are a pleasure to hear.
