This was the famous saying of the WHS Debate Squad. From the first tournament everyone knew the squad was going to be a crashing success. The topic for this year's debate season was Resolved: That the United States should adopt a system of com- pulsory service for all citizens. The debaters found that it was very appropriate to the world situation, how- ever, most of the squad preferred the negative side of the question and a voluntary system with a voluntary army. McPherson was exciting for John White and Alice Swaim who got into the octafinals and received a trophy, the only one the squad received. At District the four-man team; Alice Swaim, John White, Gary Deweese, and Mike Seiwald tied for third place with Atchison, but lost out on a trip to state by a few speaker points. 35 Rembrandt von Scully hard at work.
