The students at Wamego think they have about the best teachers in the world. But ya can't blame them for getting a little mad when all the teachers seem to pour it on at the same time. The folks tell me that, that Pitney kid, Jerry, has double trouble having his mother as the lovable math teacher, but Jerry just laughs and says, Ya know that real smart math teacher up there? Well, l'm her dumb son! But don't let those kids fool ya! There really is a soft spot in their hearts for the faculty of W, H. S. MR. S. in running order through the school year, And, that's not easy! Mrs. Shortt and Mrs. Rickstrew were faced this year with that new schedule of 25 minute noon hours with classes being stag- gered. They had to turn to Mrs. Young for help and were quickly relieved. What? You think this would be an easy job? Just try and please 250 kids at the same time. This new schedule helped the bus drivers, too. They were able to get the students home a lot earlier. But that darn mud and ice still has them buffaloed ! Everything from tak- ing inventory to driving the activity bus falls into the catagory marked, Mr. Shehi and Mr. Young! STUDENTS GET THEIR SAY SO IN STUDENT COUNCIL I've heard the kids say that they think the Student Council is a very good thing to have, and they think it's gotten more done this year than ever before, They organized such things as the first TV Show on WIBW-TV, the Fresh- man Initiation Party, the monthly schedule of activities, dances after football and basketball games, and the selling of Savings Stamps. And believe it or not, I really had a good time. They had all sorts of games to play, and the Variety Show, under the direction of Diane Fecht, was the funniest thing I've seen in years! And, do you know that they even had that gyrn decorated? From now on, I'm making the Senior Carnival an annual event for me! Emcee, Bill Gieber looks quite astonished to have Peggy Kelsey run across the stage with Edgar Drake close behind! This was one of the acts in the Variety Show at the Senior Car- nival. SENIORS BEGIN SENIOR WEEK WITH A SOLEMN BACCAIAUREATE SERVICE' Fifty Seniors walked down the aisle on Sunday, May 20, for Baccalaureate Services. The Mixed Chorus sang two selections, and the address was given by the Rev. Thomas Ingle. This started the Seniors on their final week with the right spirit. Salutatorian and Valedictorian for the Class of '56 were Diane Fecht and Rose Hieger. They finished their four years of high school with a 3. 8 and 3. 9 average-which is on the 4 point basis. Nice job, girls! 50 THE LONG-WAITED NIGHT Following the pattern set three years ago, two members of the Senior class were speakers at Commencement, Diane Fecht's speech was entitled Just What Is A Senior? while Jim Shortt's topic was After Graduation, What? FINALLY ARRIVES! COMMENCEMENT! Juniors, Juanita Wille and Jerry Ubel, led the Seniors down the aisle on this important night. Here they are shown minutes before the big event, Good luck, and watch those high heels! Jim Shortt and Ronda Kolterman display their extreme happiness to have the whole thing over.
