When ,G gh the band ,first marched in 1961, it was a small group of 56 students. Today the band has passed the 100 mark. Also a full-time orchestra ' teacher, Mr. Martino, has joined the depart- ment. In addition to his regular vocal classes, Mr. Blevins now teaches a music theory course for advanced students. Some of the year's activities are the choir's part in the Christmas program, the band's pro- duction of Soundtrack, and the band's per- formance at North Texas State College. 'f Since the opening of the first curtain x on Waltrip's stage, many new pieces of equip- , ' ' ment have been added to the speech depart- S ment. The latest additions are the sky drop , Q .tg and the barn doors for the auditorium. Students have the opportunity to partici- pate in many interscholastic tournaments. Among the -many activities of the depart- - ment this fall was the production of the musical Pajama Game, a product of the efforts of both the drama classes and the music depart- ment.

Roy Richardson B.S., S.H.S.C. Some of the activities of girls' physical educa- tion are swimming, basketball, archery, tennis, bad: minton, soft-ball, modern dance, health, and first-aid. Speedball is a new sport for seniors. Volleyball is an old activity which has changed from eight players-two hits to six players-one hit. The 'boys' physical education department strives not only to produce star athletic squads in football, basketball, baseball, track, swimming, golf, and tennis, but also to aid in the better physical development of each individual boy.
