While the basic curriculum remains the same, there are more home projects and visits into the home. Each teacher now works ten months instead of nine and teaches one adult class for 60 hours per ' year. Home economics cultivates domestic skills.

During Bill of Rights Week QDC- cember 12-16j, two speakers' from the Texas Bill of Rights Foundation spoke to the depart- ment: History classes have also been watching the stock market, taking losses or making prof- its on paper. On November 8 all students in the de- partment had their own election by straw vote, which was compared with the national results. The addition of a third fulltime teacher and a new art room has allowed the art de- partment to expand so that all interested stu- dents may now take an art course. As well as growing in size, the department has also grown in new concepts. Four different techniques are used in making rugs, one of which is an invention of Waltrip students. A new medium being tried is instant papier mache. Susan Gardner watches as Rhonda Edwards works on her wall hanging.
