Language ,Cab Aids Students Languages are the pedigrees of' nations. -SAMUEL JOHNSON Since Waltrip opened in 1960, the for- eign language department has adopted a new: teaching method-the audio-lingual approach in teaching all the modern languages. Textbooks geared to this approach are used, and there are tapes and records supplementing them. A valuable aid in teaching the modern lan- guage is the language lab, which guides students in learning correct pronunciation and intonation. Listening to German tapes are Lori Wegmann and Roy Mitchell. Mr. Henry L. Azios, jr. B.A., St. Thomas U. Miss Maurine Bates, Chairman B.A., Rice Miss Wanda E. In keeping with today's business world, the commercial department has added a six-weeks course of study on automated data processing to the secre- tarial training II classes. In conjunction with the secretarial training classes, qualified members of the Future Secretaries Club are assigned as clerical assistants to teachers. Each week the assistant visits the teacher to receive clerical work which she does during regular class period. At the end of the semester, the teacher pre- pares a report on her assistant, which serves as part of her grade and also as basis for a reference. B.S., U. of Tenn.g M.B.A., U. of H, Mrs. Vera S.
