The Spartan Staff of ‘89 has chosen Mr. Neil Tracy as Teacher of the Year. Mr. Tracy has been teaching for 22 years, here and at McLeansboro. He has a Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and a Master’s from SIU at Carbondale, both in botany. Mr. Tracy lives in McLeansboro with his wife Rita, son Todd and daughter Kisha. He enjoys traveling with his family, reading, writing, and nature study and he counts fishing, hunting and antique collecting among his hobbies. His favorites include Chinese food, the book Leaves of Grass, and the movie ‘‘Lost Horizon.’’ Mr. Tracy feels that the most difficult thing about teaching is “‘convincing people that the number one priority of education is to learn.’’ The best thing about teaching is undoubtedly ‘having students come back and tell me | was right.’’ Mr. Tracy felt he was drawn to teaching and that it was what he is best able to do. (I’m sure many Waltonville students would agree.) His advice to students is ‘l am only here for one purpose and that is to teach you about what | Know. If you imagine me in any other light, then perhaps that’s all it is, imagination.’’ Mr. Neil Tracy contributes much every day to the education and lives of Waltonville students. Con- gratulations and thanks, Mr. Tracy. — The ‘89 Spartan Staff
