She has been teaching for 22 years: 3 at Woodlawn and 19 at Waltonville. Her educational background consists of an equivalent to an Associate’s degree; and a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in Education from SIU in Carbondale. Why did she go into teaching? She explains she always wanted a better education. After her sons were out on their own, she decided to pursue a career. Looking for something to do with her education, she chose teaching. She comments the most difficult thing about teaching is discipline. Her worst teaching experience was when Mr. Jenkins sat in one of her English classes for a state evaluation. She said, ‘‘l know Julius Caesar front and back, but! got so nervous | drew a blank.” She loves to play golf and is currently a member of the Indian Hills Golf Club in Mt. Vernon. Other hob- bies include reading and cross-word puzzles. Ever wonder why her car is so red? The reason being, it’s her favorite color! Her favorite foods are pizza and anything spicy. In general Ms. Tice has contributed a great deal to the education of Waltonville students. She has helped us become the leaders of tomorrow. Thank you and congratulations, Ms. Tice. JETS stands for Junior Engineer- ing Technological Society. The tests are taken annually at Rend Lake College. Here’s another change in ’87. Instead of having the annual awards banquet, the students decided to have a pizza party. It was held May 26 in the gym. There were plenty of pizzas from Bobo’s. All athletes were given a very nice red-n-white plaque. REGION For the first time, Waltonville hosted the basketball regionals. It was an extra treat for the Spartan fans. On 2 24 87 Waltonville won with ease over Elverado 68-56. Two days later Coach Belva got his 200th win with Walton- ville’s victory over Sesser in overtime 59-56. Waltonville met its arch rival Woodlawn 2 27 87 for the regional cham- pionship. The gym was packed and suspense was in the air. Despite a grueling effort, the mighty Spartans fell to Woodlawn 23-41. The Spartans advanced one step fur- ther than the previous year. Let’s support them to the championship this year! Above: ticket takers. Right: Waltonville’s video man. Our happy The Challenge Begins! Most students participated in the exciting events such as sweats’ day, red and white day, geek day, and beach bum day. The freshmen took the title of tug-of-war champs from the class of 88 who held it for 2 years. But the juniors had the most class participation. The sophomores let their artists take over as they won the decorated wall contest. The seniors won the fave cram-a- circle. Will a faculty vs. student tug-of-war and a pie-in-the- face contest be future events?
