These girls attended Girl's State for one week at U.K. They were selected by the teachers on the basis of leadership, scholarship, and health. They learned Parliamentary Procedure and studied Kentucky's government. From left to right are Judy Shields, Vicki Logsdon, Shelley Kendall, and Joella Sleet. Girl's State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Boy’s State was held at Eastern State College. Like Girl’s State the boys studied the government of Kentucky. They set up townships and elected mayors, town councils and visited police court in Richmond. From left to right are Donnie Afterkirk, Bernie Spencer, David Milner, Tony Richards, and Jimmy Robinson.
