NTS AVE 35 Carl John Oswald RLHURS T OLDSMOBILE Dennis Selxmidff .TUNE WEDEL came to Walton for the fourth grade. Her spirit and drive have been. the key to her success as editor of the Wal- tonian and the Royal Blue. In her freshman year she was secretary-treasurer of her class. In her sophomore year she was Vice President of her class, social chairman of Y-teens, anda member ofthe student council and was the news editor for her class. In her junior year she was againvice president of her class and also vice president of the Y-teens. She was elected social chairman of the Pep Club and secretary-treasurer of the student council. She participated in the one-act play andgave a dramatic reading which received a highly superior. She was assistant editor of the Waltonian. During the last year in high school, she was elec- ted president of the senior class, and of the Y-teen. She was one of the outstanding cheer leaders this year. June was also president of the student council during this year. She gave another dramatic reading and received a superior. June was the editor of the Waltonian and o'f the Royal Blue. During all four years June has been active in mixed- chorus, girls glee club, triple trio, and girls sextette. GLADYS WOELK has 'been with us since the beginning of the fifth grade and has been a very progressive and ambitious worker in all class and extra-circular activities. She was elected president of the freshman class and wasa member of Y-teens, Pep Club, mixed chorus, and glee club throughout the four years. Duringher sophomore year, she was sec-treas. of the class, publicity chair- man for Y-teens, and a member of the triple trio. The following year she again earned her share of offices including sec-treas. of junior class, publicity chairmanof Y-teens, sec-treas. of Pep Club and again a member of the triple trio. Gladys' last year in high school was a busy one indeed, for she again served as sec-treas. of the senior class, Social Service chairman for Y-teens sec-treas. of student counciland member of girls sextette. She was also assistant edi- tor of the Royal Blue and took part in the one-act play. ANNA MARIE JANZEN came to Walton to be- ginher high school career,- She has always been a member of the Pep Club, Y-teen club, mixed chorus, and girls glee club. Anna Marie has always taken an active interest in the sports activities of the school. During the Sophomore year she served as music chairman of the Y-teen club and when she became a senior she acquired the re- sponsibilities of class reporter for the Waltonian. She loves horses and anything else with a Western flavor. CLINTON FISHER joined the class during the second semester of the sophomore year and his athletic prowess has earned letters in football, basketball and track. He was a member of the mixed chorusfor one year and during his senior year he sang in the boys octette. Clinton has always beena leader in class activities, first as president of the junior class and then as vice-president of the senior class. He has also been an ac- tive member of Hi-Y, serving as sec-treas. his junior year and vice-president during his senior year. His position as photo- grapher for the Royal 3lue kept him very busy for several weeks at the close of' the year CARL .TOHN OSWALD has been a member of the class of '49 since the fourth grade. He has beena good worker in all activities and especially loved sports. He has always been a memberof the Hi-Y and wasa member of the mixed chorus during his freshmen, sophomore, and senior year. Duringhis senior year his bass voice earned him a spot in the boys octette. He was elected business manager for the' Royal Blue andhis sales talks con- vincedmany merchantsthat advertising paid. Carl John's athletic ability is well-known around Waltonand it helpedhim earn letters in both basketball and football. DENNIS SCHMIDT has been a member of the fair Class of '49 since they were in the sixth grade. He has always been energetic a.nd wheneverany workwas to be done, Dennis could be depended uponto help out. He has been a member of the Hi-Y -throughout his high school yearsand has served the cabinet as song leader. His musical ability has also earned for him a place in the mixed chorus ,and boys glee club for four years and during the last three he was also a member of the boys octette. Hehas earned letters in football, track, and basketball. He was also production manager of the Waltonian Dennis played a trombone during his freshl man year. FRANKLIN HIEBERT joined the class on the last lap of the nigh school journey since an auto accident has made it impossible for him to graduate withhis Class of l9A8. He worked hard to get his credits and has also managed to work as production manager of the Waltonian. His work on the Royal Blue has been a distinct asset. Franklin also sang in the mired chorus during his fresh- men, sophomore, and junior years. He was also active in athletics. He participated in football his sophomore and junior years and in basketball the first three years of his high school career. The Junior Glass started their first year as upperclassmen with twelve members and Mrs. Wright as their sponsor. During the course of the year they lost Marvin Hux- ma.n and gained Hildred Schmidt. The highlights of this year were the Junior play The Taming of Tuffy andthe Junior-Senior banquet given in honor of the graduating class. Making their first appearance in the six-man football war this season, the Walton High School gridsters have put away their gear and have gone down in the books as one of the fastest football sextettes in the state. Coached by Farris Razook, a University of Wichita graduate, the Waltonians lost only one of eight games during the season and tallied 253 points against 84 for the opposition. By defeating Windom 40 to 6, the locals captured the McPherson County League Championship.
