They were Marvin Esau, Gelbert Hague, Betty Lou McClure, Edwin Peters, Harold Burner, Donald Hopkins, Betty Unruh, John David Wright, Milton Covalt, and Edythe Schmidt. Proceeding to the second grade they found a new member in their midst ln age pgrson of Franklin Hlebert. Teacher for the first and second grades was ss lenn. Entering the third grade they were misfortunate to lose Franklin Hlebert, John David Wright, and Edythe Schmidt, but addedto their number Lewis Tleszen, Carl John Oswald, and Delia Ruxman. Moving along to the fourth grade, June and Juel Dixon were added to their number. Miss Neuman was their teacher for the third and fourth grades. In the fifth grade they lost Harold Burner, Milton Covalt, and Carl John Oswald. They were guided through their classes by Miss Shoffner. In the sixth year the class gained Elgin Hiebert, Ralph and Wayne Hicks, Elmer Frlesen and Franklin Hlebert with Mrs. Yeager serving as teacher. Elgin Hiebert left us as we advanced to the seventh grade. The big event of that year was taking first place at the basketball tourney held at Goessel. Misa Edna Voth was their teacher for that year. In the eighth grade Oswald Schmidt Joined this group for their final year of grade school. Those graduating were Wayne and Ralph Hicks, Betty Unruh, Betty Lou McClure, Edwin Peters, Gelbert Hague, Marvin Esau, Franklin Hiebert, Oswald Schmidt, and Delia Huxman. Their teacher was Mrs. Beardsmore. Thirteen dignified eighth grade graduates became thirteen green little freshmen in September 1944 as they began their role of high school life. They were Ralph Hicks, Wayne Hicks, Virgil Strain, Elmer Frlesen, Larson Woelk, Lewis Tieszen Oswald Schmidt, Edwin Peters, Franklin Hiebert, Betty Lou Mc- Clure, Delia huxman, Ruth Wiebe, Betty Unruh, and Marvin Esau. Betty Lou Mc- Clure was elected presldent and Mrs. Haury was chosen as their sponsor to lead them through their freshman year. At the beginning of the sophomore year they gained one new member,Dw1ght Platt, but lost Ralph and Wayne Hicks, Virgil Strain, and Larson Woelk. Lewis Tleszen was chosen president and Mrs. Platt was sponsor. They remember best the fun they had serving at the Junior-Senior Banquet. In their Junior year Larson Woelk rejoinedthe classand they recelveda new member, Arthur Morris. Dwight Platt left at the beginning of that year to attend Newton High School. Betty Unruh was chosen president and Mrs. Wright sponsor. The highlights were the Junior play 'Take It Easy' and the Junior- Senlor Banquet with a May Pole theme. Septemberl948 found elevensenlors readyfor their last yearof high school. Franklin Hlebert, due to a serious accident the previous summer, was unable to finish with his class. Miss Chaney was chosen as sponsor. Larson Woelk was chosen presldentand Betty Unruh as secretary-treasurer. The highlights of the year were presentlngthe Senior play, 'Along Came Charl1e', publlshlngthe QQQQL BLUE, editing the school paper, Igg WALTONIAN, and taking their trip. The seniors were active in all the organizations of the school, and the H1-Y and Y-Teen claimed all the members of the class. On May 21, commencement night, they received their diplomas. They were happy to reach the goal they had been working for these past twelve years, yet were sad to see their school days come to a close. r l 4. .5 3 'W .., W. A X' Pc 11-jf ' -fa A' . The main project of the year was feeding the players of both the visiting and home teams after the games. The cheerleaders chosen by the student body for this year were Betty LouMcClure, Marilyn Reusser, and Wilma Suffield. Their outfits were blue skirts, battle Jackets and white T- shirts. The members of the Pep Club also purchased white T-shirts with the name of the club and the school emblem printed on them. At the beginning of the District Tournament, the Pep Club secretly plan- neda special rally for the fellows to show them how much they were accre- ciated. As Miss Chaney read s. poem about each player the girl who had drawn that name presented him with a gift of candy or cookies. Mr. Buhler and Mr. Nansen were each presented with an angel food cake. The Pep Club again played an active part in school life. M . 4 K F 4 gg,-:m : .7 WW W QQN- Nw,-, b f 1. 2: n W 'H S iff, X at ' Jw .ph ur ' ii gg -..gb 4 Q .
