The first main event of the year for this department was the Junior Glass Play whichwas given November 26. The name of the play was Pleased 'ta Meetcha' and that's exactly what it was. It was a hilarious comedy in 5 acts preformed by all the Juniors--no substlt- tutlon and no one was left out. Harold Voth played the part of Elmer Hicks, ignorant country boy friend of Betty Bixby, played by Elva Schertz., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bixby played by Robert Siemens and'Bery1 Jantz, respectively. The second' act was interrupted by the entrance of Detective Beebehglayed by Donald Kirk, who was fran- tically searching for the lost necklace 'which was to have been given to Betty by her father for her birthday. I-Ie was assisted by Detect- ive Andrew Grimes, played by Richard Janzen, w1'io'turns out to be an imposter. Bob Nulph, Mary Ellen McCoy, Ethel Graves, and Lawrence Yoder were friends invited to Betty's party. Floyd Janzen, the but- ler was also interested in the -necklace and valuable papers of Mr. Bixby. AHe gets caught and continually wants to prove himself ln- nocent when accused. All ends well and Betty and Elmer are brought together. We can't forget Mrs. Phil C. McKnight who was sponsor of and coach for the play.. The Junior class play showed' excellent coaching and .cooperation of all the players. T On December 7, Walton High School was represented by four stud- ents ln the League Forensic Meet at Wlndom. Geraldlne Stratton gave the humorus reading, 'China Blue-Eyes g Betty,Unruh gave, the dramatic reading, A Social Par1ah g Harold Voth's oratlon was entitled Mur- der or Mutuallty and Maurice McClure's extempore speech dealt with some phase of the Missouri Valley Authority. A rating of Excellent was received by each of these contestants. This was under the dir- ection of Mrs. Platt. , , The Sne-Act Play Contest, which was held at Marquette was an event of April l2. The play which was chosen by Mrs. Platt, the director, was Ne1ghbors . The following people were chosen for the cast. A Inez Geraldine Stratton 4Peter Harold Voth Mis' Abel Elva Schertz Grandma Beryl Jantz Ezra Williams Maurice McClure Mis' Moran Leona Schmidt Mis' Trot . Betty Unruh Q Mis' Ellsworth Mary Ellen McCoy , With spring came the season for the annual Senior Play. The Seniors of '46 chose for their production the play The Big Blow-Up, a three-act comedy by Robert St. Clair. The leading characters of the play were four suitcases, which looked so much alike that their owners were continually getting them mixed up. The play was not only uproariously furfny, but was highl-y exciting because in one of the suit-cases was a. time bomb that would blow anyone who 'trled to open it to smithereens, and in another was a valuable pearl necklace. Many people almost opened the fatal suitcase and the suspense was terrific. It all ended happily, however, when the real- necklace was found and returned to its rightful owner, and the time bomb was exploded without injury to anyone. The Seniors chose a grand play and gave ta splendid performance. Their sponsor, Miss Chaney, dir- ected the -play and every Senior, took part. r eg' ' .':.:bt.0.4 , D 40 'Q o 0 05.-ff X 24, X SX S ft., l f g ,iq S -1fgEQ:3:g:3 Z-555555, 'IL' 'Q' ' '1?5f55?Sff1'g.. .... .4555 - .::gfi2g::.:..iE5S5SSSs:z:5:5 -. :2' Hifi ' ' ' 2 1 'Y' .-:1:2f2E13:?:f:IE25I5 1:1 ':1:2Z1E1E1E2E1f1:2 .A '- g 09'q'o'O0 '-zg:-:-3-gig:-'-' ' -:':-:-:-:-:-:-:2: 3735 :- .'f.1'ut7?i ,..- ' 6 ''.i.1.3.iiziififiiiiiiiiiififff - 'o'o'0'f ' fijf' N X ..,.j:j:j:'i5EfE5f355f5f , if ' s - eg' N . ..:1:5f:5-5 ,,j5E5EgE5E5E5E5E1ErEr... 1:1 x qi..
