The Dionne quintuplets were borng Brazil adopted a new constitutiong the United Statesdebt was S27,053,l41,4l-4 and the Class of '46 started to school. That was twelve long years ago, but many remembrences, both good and bad, still linger in their memory. Their new sand table, Sissyls broken tooth, the mysteries of the upstairsg and the cold GHYS when they huddled by the radiators for warmth are things they shall never forget. The charter members of the class were Maur1ceHcClure, Eulala Hiebert, Elma Regier, Geraldine Stratton, Leona Schmidt, and Charles Unruh. Lois Schmidt Joined the class in the eighth grade. The ele- mentary grades passed by quite successfully, and finally in September, l942, the mysteries of the upstairs were revealed and they found them- selves in High School. Irwin Koehn, Orlan Euller, Leland woelk,' Jim wiebe, and Dwaine Reusser ,joined the class in their Freshman year. Miss Mildred Peat acted as the advisor and Leland Woelk was president of the class. They had several parties and gave a Freshman assembly which proved to be quite successful for beginners. The Freshman boys were quite outstanding in H1-Y, basketball, football, and track, while the girls took active parts in G. R. and Physical Education, and all participated in some phase of musical activities such as band, mixed chorus and glee clubs. At the beginning of the Sophomore year they found that they hed lost Marjorie Sahr, Delores Hopkins, and Willis Converse. The school year whizzed by and they entered their Junior year. Ruth Benkula, s classmate since the first grade, had enrolled in the Newton Schools. Mary Kathyrn Yoder Joined the class, raising the number to 14. I-Irs. Wright was class sponsor both So homore and Junior years and Maurice McClure and Dwalne Reusser held tge presidency for these years. High- lights of the Junior year were the Junior Class Play, They Gave Him A Co-Ed , which was received by a packedauditorium, and the Junior- Senior Banquet which was held in the spring. The banquet theme was Moonlight and Hoses and the setting was an old fashioned garden. Their numerous class partieswere enjoyed by everyone. Margaret Spang- ler left the class soon after the first semester. At the beginning of the Senior year, Leland woelk and Orlan Buller: class members since their Freshman year, left the class and resumed their studies in the Newton High School. This brought the number of the class dovm to eleven. At the end of the first semester, Florence Hiebert, an old grade school classmate, rejoinedher class. Miss Chaney was the sponsorfor the Senior Class, and Dwaine was again chosen as president. The class was proud of the places held by Charles, Jim, Dwaine, Maurice, and Irwin on the Basketball Team. Jim and Charles were chosen for the first and second All-Star Teams respectively in the League. Leona, Geraldine, Florence, Lois, and Elma participated in Girls' Sports. All class members were active in either G. H. -or H1-Y. Dwaine and Eulala held the presidency or each organization and Mary Kathryn and Jimwere the vice-presidents. Several of their class- mates were active in the field of Dramatics. Gerald1ne,ALeona, and Maurice all attended the Forensic contests at one time or another. They also participated in the one-act play contests. The, class has worked hard on the publication of THE WALTONIAN, the school paper, and on the ROXAL BLUE. Nearly everyone in the class took an active part in the Music Department, some participating in band or mixed chorus, others in the glee clubs or various ensembles. They are happy to reacn tne goal they have been working for these past twelve years, yet are sad to see the school days come to a close.
