PROLOGUE W ' lien delegates from the tuenU-one republics of the Western I leniispliere convened at tne Pan- American Conference in Rio de Janeiro last Janu- ary, the theme ol their convention was aptly ex- pressed in the following resolution: ' I hf |. rinrii)lc tlial liilcriiiiUrinal conoiicl niusi nc inspired by ihe poli( ' ol llie Cmoa Neiynlior is llie norm of inlematioiial law on ihc Kmerlcan Con- tinent. Since that time, a kaleidoscope of events has made us increasingly aware that the sentiment expressed in that statement is ol vilal and immetliale concern to every citizen ol ihe I ' nitcd States. C ir entire population is launched upon a lull-scale Good Neighbor campaign, designed to awaken in us the realization that from now on the very existence of this country antl thai ol all our sister re[)ublics lo the South, are inseparal)l cnlwincd and intemiingled. 1 hat spirit of friendliness and mutual interest is duplicated, in a smaller sense, here in Walton. For lour happy years, in classes and clubs, we have been cultivating and expanding a good neighbor policy among ourselves. While those four ears ha -e seen their share of disapjjoinlments and sorrow, the memo- ries which linger will be of the good times and dear friends. As we pari Irom all our good neighbors here, we lca e wilh llic rcinxiclion deep in ( )ur licnrls thai we are better ecfuipped than e er before to carr - with us through life the same friendly spirit which pre- vailed here. It is our sincere hope that this book will serve to re ' i ' e lor our pleasure in future x ' cars a lillle of the Good Neighbor Polic - inside Walton. bj.. i. i-; Sri:L

Class o( January lO- l: As each class graduates we arc remiiuled ol our liopcs and wishes for llieni. I always hope that one enduring qualit ' that our girls take with (hern from Walton is consideration for the rights of others. 1 was happy, therefore, when I was told that the theme of your yearbook was Good iVe i A xjrs al Wallon. Consideration lor the rights of others as a basic principle for all our actions at alton makes it possible for us to live as good neighbors in our crowded school community. If you carry this awareness of others ' righls inio all our relations with people and into your thinking on important cjuestions, you will be members of the band that will solve y merica ' s vexing social and economic problems. If ou can help create a wodd in which people are guided in their actions In- this rule ol lile, ou will advance the search lor the road to per- manent peace which man so earncstK ' desires. You take with ()u our l esl w ish( s for a good lile. Sincerelv ours. ' ' a— 1 -OisllJ S ruK ipal ) Kr« AAWv--
