HEREIN is explained the theme of the book, DON QUIXOTES QUEST AT WALTON AT A CERTAIN VILLAGE in La Mancha, which I shall not name, there liv'd not long ago one of those old-fashion'd Gentlemen who are never without a Lance upon a Rack, an old Target, a lean Horse, and a Greyhound. Thus Cervantes begins the tale of the illustrious Don Quixote de la Mancha, a knight-errant, destined to become one of the great literary figures of all time. As this story unfolds, a host of noble thoughts, and high ideals are revealed: and so Don Quixote has lived on as the symbol of man's idealism and unconquerable faith. Pervaded with refreshing rich laughter and sparkling wit, the gay ad- ventures of the dauntless knight-errant provide a spirit of joy for those of us who share his experiences. Iust as we gleaned deep appreciation of glorious ideals from DON QUIXOTE, the romance of chivalry by Cervantes, so have we in our four years at Walton learned much from our teachers. They opened vistas to the Wisdom of the Ages: they awakened us to the concepts of democracy and of toler- ance: they showed us that in a befogged world there is still the hope of happiness. Now we think it timely to publish a new volume in the life of Don Quixote, wherein this chivalrous knight-errant tells of his adventures encountered in the Land of Walton. We hope that in reading DON QUIXOTE'S QUEST AT WALTON you will realize that ours is but an attempt to continue, in the modern manner, the adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha. Helen Siegel
