Confusion and bedlam was the scene in the gym for the next twenty-four hours. Finally, it was Saturday night at 9:00. The Junior Class had succeeded in transforming the gym into a beautiful spring garden — even though the streamers had a mind of their own. At midnight the courts were introduced. Duane Rosa and Deana Schriber were announced as the new Junior Prom King and Queen, and Richard Robinson and Kriste Merwin were announced as the new Senior Prom King and Queen. As the musical notes of “Spend My Life With You spread throughout the gym, everyone felt that May 30, 1987 would be a night to remember. Clouds threatened rain as Homecoming Day commenced. The bus garage was a chaotic pandemonium as frantic students sought to assemble their Homecoming floats. However, once the streets were cleared and the Homecoming Court climbed to the top of Mrs. Meredith's car, the parade proceeded down Delaware Street and the students regained control. Upon reaching the football field, Principal Wendell Spear announced the float winners. 10 NOON At 1:30, the 1987 W.C.S. Homecoming football game kicked off. Immediately the Orange Crush showed their true colors and dominated the field. At half-time the 1987 Homecoming Court was escorted by their parents to the field. The court was as follows: Elaine Bodisco Massink Kim Botsch Heather Meeker Kelly Reynolds Laurie Reynolds Deana Schriber Dana Tietjen Robin Wildey Joy Williams The Warriors achieved a decisive victory over the Marauders with a final score of 28-8. 12 Special 13 . . . AND NIGHT After a true Crush victory everyone donned their dancing shoes and danced to the sound of Loony-Toonz at the 1987 Homecoming Dance, held from 8-11 p.m. At 10:00 p.m. Coach Hoover announced the court and the 1987 Homecoming Queen: Robin Wildey. Last year's queen, Kristie Merwin, crowned Miss Wildey and the Orange Crush toast followed. IA Homecoming: October 3, 1987 Final Score: 28-8 U Got “The Look.” Although not quite as prevalent as in previous years, The Look once again was captured by more than one roving photographer. Mrs. Harby and Ms. Austin have added a more threatening angle to the once innocent Look, but at least the students have it down pat. 16 The Look ' A Tree Crows Walton CLASS OF 1993 OFFICERS Treas. You have played a variety of roles here — teacher, coach, advisor, dean, principal — and each was admirably done. We believe that the title, “Friend of Education” suits you well! You have been a friend to each of us, individually, and in our respective teams and activities. You have on numerous occasions supported the yearbook and its staff, and so, we'd like to return the favor. This one’s for you! 88 Dedication Playground Construction Date Set M IWttfMV ««tan Falcons Cut Walton Gridder, But Experience Was Good Crush Rumbles to Fourth Whipping S-E 28-8 Walton Stickers In 2 2 Tie Delhi Wins On Court The Year In Review Dennis Conner, the man who lost the America's Cup in 1983, won it back four years later. The Stars Stripes completed a 4-0 sweep over Australia's Kookaburra III in the race that took place in Australia. THE GOOD, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco celebrated its 50th birthday. About 250,000 people jammed onto the bridge for an anniversary walk across the span. Another 500,000 packed the bridge approaches but were denied access because the engineers feared the span could not support the weight. Miss Michigan, Kaye Lani Rae Rafko, a nurse who shook up the talent competition with a Polynesian dance, was crowned Miss America 1988. 90 The Year in Review 1987-88 Television evangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker said farewell to the PTL ministry in March. Jim Bakker resigned after confessing to a sexual encounter with a young woman. Tammy Bakker bowed out of the broadcasts to undergo treatment for drug dependency. Marine Lt. Col. Oliver L. North, was the key official in a plan to finance anti-government rebels in Nicaragua with money from arms sales to Iran. In testimony before the Iran-Contra hearings in Washington, North became somewhat of a celebrity. Democratic presidential candidate Gary Hart was forced to drop his bid for the presidency after it was reported that he was romantically involved with Donna Rice, a 29-year-old aspiring actress and model from Miami. THE BAD, 91 A barge filled with 3,128 tons of garbage became a national joke and a symbol of the nation's worsening problem with solid waste management. The barge, looking for a place to dump its cargo, was banned by six states and three foreign countries before an incinerator reduced it to ash. In the six years since Americans first heard of a mysterious immunity-robbing disease'from which no one recovers, AIDS has killed nearly 25,000 Americans. Millions of dollars have been poured into medical research, and President Reagan has proclaimed the plague, “Public Health Enemy No. 1. The Dow Jones industrial stock average dropped 508 points, the largest in history, on Monday, October 19. Some called it a “crash,” others a “meltdown, and still others Black Monday. Whatever it was, it stripped $500 billion from the market value of U.S. securities. THE UGLY, 92 The Year in Review Lee Marvin Jackie Gleason Lome Greene Kirby Puckett and Jeff Reardon of the Minnesota Twins celebrate their World Series victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Twins won the seventh and final game of the series 4-2. Fred Astaire, Liberace, John Huston, Lee Marvin, Jackie Gleason, and Lome Greene were among the celebrities who died this year.
