ADMINISTRATION George F. Mack. Ph.D. School Superintendent Years from now in a moment of repose, on a weekend, in a barracks or college housing, on a bench or a beach, perhaps in a far-away land, you'll reflect on that experience known as Walton. A gentle smile will crease your face, a sense of well-being will return. A sigh and memories of friends, faces, and good times will be yours. We believed that you would rather be challenged to become better than for us to take it easy on you. We believed that even when you complained. Your head ached, your eyes strained, your back broke, you studied, you worked out, you crammed, you pushed, you did it. You showed us CRUSH POWER, academic prowess, athletic ex- ploits, kindness; you enthused us. We talked of knowledge, manners, and good behavior. We bored you. You learned. Thank you for untold kindnesses you gave quietly to others; you counseled lovers; smiled at haters; you made things better. We believed that you were capable, that you could be champions, and you were. You learned that academic success will come only after long hours of study; athletic success only after double sessions and exhaustion; friendships only after effort, tears, and hard times. Now Class of '87, exit is imminent. You once were spectators. You became participants. You contributed to the tradition; soon you'll be part of the legacy. Can the Class of '88, or for that matter, the Class of 2000, improve on the SAT scores, show greater kindness, WIN a championship? Only they will tell us. Class of '87, you’re not as noisy as you once were. You move with greater certainty in the halls. You smile more readily. You speak with clarity. You're gentler than you once were. Class of '87, thanks for everything you gave to Walton; the world awaits you. We await reports of your deeds.
