Saturday, September 28, 1985 marked a perfect Warrior Home- coming! The last traces of Hurricane Gloria cleared in time to provide a clear, crisp day — real football weather. The annual parade was greeted by a large crowd; Dr. Wilbur and Mayor Budine led the way. A pep rally followed at the high school where Mr. Spear announced the results of the float contest. Third place went to the Class of '89 with Knock Out the Knights. The Class of '88 took second place with Joust the Knights, and first place was captured by the Class of 1990 with, Stomp 'Em, the giant shoe. 9 The Knight-Busters! Of course, with perfect football weather goes perfect Warrior football! After Dr. Mack introdu- ced the Homecoming Court girls and their parents, and the win- ning floats were presented, and the Pep Band performed, the Orange Crush-ed the Windsor Knights 20-14. And who could forget the Hoover kiss Jim Budine earned by scoring the winning touchdown? 10 Homecoming '85 Homecoming '85 Finally, at 8 p.m. (Brrr, it's cold out here!) the doors opened for the annual Homecoming Dance and the music of Scorpion Sound. Coach Hoover, emcee, introduced the Court at 10 p.m.: Erika Bender Tina Hulbert Gail Olsen Tina Benson Patty MacGibbon Amy Price Julie Hitt Jackie Mills Jodie Youmans The 1984 Queen, Diana Rutherford, escorted by Coach Breuer and Coach Backus crowned the 1985 Homecoming Queen, Jodie Youmans. Homecoming '85 closed with the Royal Dance and an Orange Crush Toast to the victorious team. Homecoming ’85 — The Year of the Knight-Busters! ii Air Bands EXCHAN STUDENTS NELLY LOURMAN FRANCE SABRINA SINI — ITALY In Honor and Memory of Steve Holstead Steve, an athlete, a student, and a friend, was active in Wrestling, Varsity Club, and Tennis, where he and partner Mike Byington helped the team win the 1985 Sus-West title by capturing the Section IV Class C Doubles Championship. Steve could always be found at home sports events showing his spirit and cheering Walton on. Steve, who was very patriotic, had planned to join the U.S. Army to serve in the defense of his country. Steven Holstead, we salute you. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. 16 'OIOIOIOI'OIO oo OO oo oo oo 00 O • o o o o o DEDICATION 1986 At Walton Central School teachers often serve in more than one capacity, and sometimes the role of friend, advisor, or coach is a difficult one. Three coaches this year faced a particularly agonizing challenge — forfeiting a key game for a principle of sportsmanship. We all heard the community response; we all shared the agony of defeat. But in this Year of the Warrior the Walton Warriors went on public record as a team united through good times and bad. And in our book, that makes us all 1! So. for taking a stand, admitting an error, and presenting the true spirit of sportsmanship, the 1986 Walton Warriors salutes the 1985 Orange Crush, and COACHES HOOVER, BREUER, and BACKUS. It is your spirit of fair play that set the precedent, and it is our responsibility to uphold your example. And so, to all of you, we say. Remember all the fun, we used to have. Don't leave behind the memories in the mind As we say good-bye. What the future will be. Nobody can see. As we say good-bye. All our hopes and our dreams. Oh, what could they mean. As we say good-bye. By Ricky Bell 171 Class of 1986 Personalities CLASS CLOWNS CLASS FLIRTS Katie Moore Brian Sparling Jackie Mills Geoff Shackelton 172 Senior Personalities HIGH FLIGHT Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... And while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. — John Cillespie Magee, Jr. 1 JANUARY 176 The End
