DO NOT FOLLOW WHERE A PATH LEADS, BUT CO WHERE THERE IS NO PATH AND LEAVE A TRAIL — UNKNOWN 2 •'PUSH NOT OFF FROM THAT ISLE; THOU CANST NEVER RETURN. — HERMAN MELVILLE 3 DEDICATION Each year it is the privilege of the yearbook staff to recognize that one special individual who has touched the many facets of school life, and thereby made our sojourn here that much more memorable. Although it is frequently a difficult choice, this year one person stood out as an exemplary leader, advisor, teacher, friend, and advocate. As a token of our appreciation for your patience, guidance, genuine concern, and sense of fair play (not to mention your sense of humor and uncanny ability to predict snow days) the 1984 Orange Crush Yearbook is dedicated to you, Mr. Murdock, with our fondest wishes for your continued fine performance as educator and humanitarian. 4 Dedication 6 Pride 16 seniors 1984 33 Faculty 51 Classes 52 Class of'85 58 Class of'86 64 Class Of '87 70 Class Of'88 74 Class Of'89 83 BOCES 89 Activities 113 Sports 143 Sponsors 169 Seniors 185 One Last Shot JR.-SR. The theme was Falling in Love sung by Balance. The band infinity did a great job with the song and students danced all night. Decorations consisted of blue, white, and lavender streamers. A beach scene was achieved with a nine ft. light house, sailboats, a pier, seagulls and fishnets. A special thanks goes to Miss Johnson, eighth grade servers, the chaperones, the custodians and the few who did help decorate until one a.m. the night before! 7 FALLING Crazy as Tt niay seem l keep on having this dream I'm falling in Jove with you I'm falling in love Maybe it's just not our time But l don't want to leave it behind Falling in love I'm falling in love I'm falling in love I think I'm falling in love I'm falling in love I think I'm falling in love You could lead me off a cloud I’d be walking on air Don't mind if I think out loud I want you to care for me .. ••• '• ' HOMECOMING '83 10 Homecoming 11 HOMECOMING 1983 Homecoming festivities of October 15 began with the morning float parade which proceeded from the bus garage to O’Neill High school. A big pep rally followed in the brisk October air. As rain-threatening clouds disappeared, the great Orange Crush emerged victorious over the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders with a final score of 44-7. The Class of ’84 took first place in the float contest, followed by the Class of ’85 and the Class of '89. The Homecoming Dance began at 8:00 with the music of Fantasy. At 10:00 Mr. Shackelton emceed the crowning ceremony which commenced with the introduction of the court (Kim Pierce, Niki Frazier, Gina Capobianco, Jeannine Wilson, Brigid Finn, Chris Beers, Terri Burghart, Patty Backus) and ended with a toast to the 1983 Homecoming Queen, Judy Hulbert. Shelli Robinson won the game football, and in the true Crush spirit, presented it to Jim O'Donnell. 12 CLASS C SECTION 4 CHAMPIONS RECORD 8-1 MR. The Yearbook Staff 156 157 158 160 161 Walton’s Winter Surf Team 163 Do you remember ?!! 168 691 SJCHU0S Being a senior means different things to different people, it means going to concerts, going to parties, and having skip days. It means getting senior pictures, ordering gradu- ation announcements, and seeing who has whose class ring, it is sending our college applications, filling out finan- cial aid forms, and waiting to hear from colleges, it is having a yearbook with your name on it, your own class t-shirt, and your own class mug. it is selling magazines, having decorat- ed, but messy lockers, and sitting in senior Honor study hall. This year's class is special because they felt it their duty to repay the community for their education. They launched projects in the Park Terrace Nursing Home and the Walton Movie Theater. Most of their time this year was spent look- ing back to the times when they used to have fun as Hon- orary Seniors in 10th and 11th grade. Reminiscing and memories are important, but looking to the future is even more so. Although some of us are sad about leaving this school and our friends behind, others are eagerly looking forward to starting college or work, it is certain that the Senior Class of 1984 will succeed! Peck Memorial Library at O'Neill Junior-Senior High School on January 22,1984. Dr. Peck, an orthopedic surgeon and a 1924 Walton union School graduate, bequeathed $475,000 to be used for scholarships for present and past graduates of Walton Central School. in a special letter to Superintendent Dr. George Mack, Governor Cuomo commented, Dr. Peck has left a legacy of achievement which is an inspiration to the Walton Central School District and the entire community May all who use the library and its resources be reminded of Dr. Peck’s example and the value of education throughout our lives.” 186 A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet , but parting is (still) such sweet sorrow.” Thank you, Mrs. Rose, for your compassion and guidance as a faculty member at WCS. we will miss 4 your bright smile and wild earrings, but your contributions to our futures will long remain Hats off in thanks to Dr. Mack, Mr. Ryan, Mr. Spear, and Mrs. McGranaghan, who have made the jobs of the yearbook staff so much easier this year. Your interest and support is greatly appreciated. Thanks Mr. Backus for the memories of Christmas Skits and Winter Carnivals. Mr. Shackelton, thanks for serving as WCS' Howard Cosell! Mrs. Meredith and Mr. Ford — thanks for every- thing, especially for putting up with us on DEAD- LINE DAYS! Without you this book would not have been possible. HAPPY RETIREMENT MRS.
