, , „ „« , ™„ «. ci ass f 1941 • i«=» .«-.,,.« OUR SCHOOL-TODAY 1826-1849 Located where the present North Junior High stands, in the lower story of a building referred to as the Town School. It con- sisted of one classroom. There were no grad- uation exercises — a student upon completing his work simply left school. 1849 Beginning of a true High School, with im- provements instituted such as the g rading sys- tem, a grammar department, language and mathematics courses, and the ability to prepare students for college. 1869 The High School left its original site, and a building known as the Old High was erected at the corner of Church and School Streets. 1902 The central structure of the present High School was built to keep up with the increas- ing development of the community. 1935 Completion of the east and west wings and the elimination of a morning and afternoon session. 1936 The large gymnasium in the rear of the east wing was completed, permitting the old gym to be used as a cafeteria. 1939 Addition of five new rooms to the cast wing. What will the next few years bring forth ?
