The many young people receiving their. training in Walters High School are a credit to the entire community. The devotion, interest, and guidance of your parents and teachers should in- spire you to the higher things in life. They have provided you with all the necessities of living, so that you may obtain your education. If you students apply your train- ing to meet the various situations in life, as you go about your work, you will bring glory or credit to your home and community. May we never be dis- appointed in the efforts we have made in working together. Q... 23 Of' 5 QQ If 08 . Nn. Fw QC 2.2 S-1 3 53 ..: US' -13 'ST 5 E? n --I We 0,3 32 C 35 as Bm U's n 34 0 3? Our theme was The Struggle for Peace. Our class has participated in band, football, basketball, traclz, baseball, FFA, FHA, vocal music, and Pep Club. We were hosts to the Seniors at the JuniorHSenior Banquet, financed by operating the con- cessions during ball games md also the Junior Play. We hope the Seniors enioyod it as much as we enioyed giving it. Our Junior play was a huge success. lt was a lot of work but we really mioyed it. This year we '-'forked extra hard to win the annual queen race for our candidate Dixie Speir, and we gave the Juniors a close and exciting chase right up to the deadline. Although we lost the race, we were glad that we were able to contribute our share toward cutting the cost of annuals. One of the first class activities was a Halloween party held Friday night, October 30, at the West Cache School House. Another class activity which was enjoyed by all was the Christmas assembly presented December l8. We presented a Christmas play, Chri stmas Recaptured', and the cast included eight talented Sophomores. Another honor to come our way this year was the winning of tirst prize in the contest sponsored by the Ministerial Alliance during the month of November to see which class had the best Sunday School attendance. ln addition to these class activities and honors, members of the Sophomore Class have taken act- ive parts in the All School Play, band, chorus, and sports, and have been an outstanding class scholastically. Our sponsors this year were Miss Harbert and Mr. Whitely. 13' . The senior high pep club, composed of about fifty members, was very active during the '53-'54 school year. Our activities started early with the election of officers who were: Katherine Walton, president, June Sanders, vice-president, Mary Thomas, sec-treasurer, and cheer leaders Maxine Phillips, Gloria Priddy, Bonnie Martin and Shirley Walton. Miss Harbert was elected sponsor and Mrs. l.eGrand co-span sor. We made several out-of-town trips to support the ball teams and held weekly pep rallies before these games. We became interested in learning some new yells and songs and practiced these at meetings. We presented an assembly of pep yells and songs. The high-light olour activities was the crowning ofthe football queen, Katherine Walton. We worked very hard to have a nice , crowning ceremony, and we were very glad that our president was chosen as queen. Our pep club members drew up a con- stitution in which the rules and regulations of the club were written. We hope that this constitution will be ofhelp to future pep clubs at Walters. i a Walters Wai ters Walters Walters Walters Walters Walters Walters Walters Walters 0 Hobart I2 0 Tipton 0 19 Velma-Alma O l2 Temple 6 l2 Frederick 20 l5 Waurika 7 19 Marlow 46 7 Altus 32 7 Purcell 22 0 Comanche l2 ,Football Squad A A, ki 5 '15 -509 +: N iff'-' 5-x TOP left to right, Asn. The Walters Blue Devil football team finished second in the final conference standing when Comanche, the apparet? winner, had to forfeit all their games for using an inelig- ible player thnoughout the season. This made our final season's standing read four wins, five losses, and one tie. Our record in the conference was three wins and one loss. The boys represented our High School superbly and displayed a tremeidous amount of team spirit and desire, even while losing. eniurs SCHEDULE la..-1 iv M 010 'lllml omlflv Q Ml Larry l.eGrand, Barbara Lulce, Betty The Big Momeml Luke, and Michael Lecmnd.
