King and Queen of Hearts The traditional Queen of Hearts Contest was once again a big event at WHS. This year a new dimension was added to the contest as the first Parade of Queens led off the show. Next the nineteen contestants, Kathy Boensch, Connie Nesbitt, Joanne Frakes, Boo Boensch, Sami Fender, Paula Savage, Darlene Ulmer, Cathy Kirkland, Susie Nettles, Jackie Warren, Donna Lawton, Kay Beals, Tawana Dickerson, Edith Bright, Cheryl Maree, Julie Stephens, Susie Nettles, Ray Janice Deal, and Rachel Reed were introduced to judges Jeanie Aldridge, Bob Scott, and Darius McCarthy. While the judges voted for first the finalists and then the winner, entertainment was headed by the singing of Eva Farmer. Finally, in the moment of suspense, Kathy Boensch was named as the Queen of Hearts for 1978. 1. Connie Nesbitt, first runnerup; Kathy Boensch, Miss Queen of Hearts; Joanne Frakes, second runnerup. 2.
