Courses offered by the de- partment include general mathematics, ol- gebro, geometry, and advanced mathe- matics. These are all modern courses. Mrs. M. JoIMS CffDi moj? ENGLISH AND FOREIGN LANGUAGES The English Department offers to each student of WSHS the opportunity to learn how to use his language well—to speak with assurance, to write with clarity, to read with understanding. Today's world demands facility in communication; the English Department strives to supply this necessary skill to our students. Three foreign languages—Spanish, French, and Latin—give a basis for understanding and appreciof ing civilizations and cultures other than our own. Mrs. M. F. TRADE AND INDUSTRY . .Industrial Arts education objectives are concerned with the industrial orientation, consumer knowledge of industrial products, and the prevocational and avo- cational interests of the students. . . Vocational education classes are designed to pre- pare high school students for gainful employment in a specific occupation or family of occupations. AGRICULTURE .. The Agriculture Department tries to prepare its stu- dents for positions in the many fields of agriculture. These include farming, agricultural occupations, ag- ricultural sales and services, and preparation for the students who plan to further their education in one of the fine agricultural colleges or technical schools. Also, os a port of the department's work, adult classes are held for young farmers, and each year a twenty-hour course is offered in such areas os farm mechanics or farm management. HOME ECONOMICS Three years of home economics ore offered at WHS. The courses include work in the following areas; clothing and tetiles; child development; foods and nutrition; health; home management; housing, equipment, and furnishings; personal and family relationships. There are two active FHA chapters. Each year they elect a Miss F. H. A. 28
