Mrs. Margaret Lytchfield Mr. Sam Lytchfield Mr. Mike Lind ley Mr. Robert Hayes WHS students are inquisitive and eager to learn about everything from What makes grass green? to What is nuclear fission? To satisfy this thirst for knowledge the Science Department offers general science, psychology, biology, chemistry, and phy- sics. This year a group of WHS students visited several Handle with care I e. Science places of scientific interest, including Oak Ridge, to get a first-hand view of scientific achievements. Mrs. Margaret Lytchfield heads the science de- partment of WHS.

 J oreU n rJlctn uci es The Foreign Language Department of WHS offers students an unlimited opportunity, not only to improve grammar and punctuation, but also to broaden the horizon of cultural un- derstanding through the knowledge of foreign customs and ideas. Courses in Latin, French, and Spanish are taught. This year the students were given the opportunity to expand their knowledge of Latin in a Latin III class. The Language Clubs of WHS also enliven students interests and promote und er standing. Mrs. Mary Frances Parker is the head of this department.

Janie GasJkin Walk In every phase of daily life, from complicated formulas, derivations of scientists, to the purchasing of toothpaste at the drug store, math is a basic essential in our modern-day world. Keeping in step with the vast technological advances made in recent years, WHS for the first time offered this year a course in Advanced Math II. Also taught by the WHS math department are general math, algebra, geome- try, advanced algebra and trigonometry. Airs. Meryl B.
