Language began the first time sounds were used to convey ideas. Its growth and development since then is one of man's greatest achievements. English is a living thing, changing with the years. English at WHS changed this year as the students in advanced classes were required to do summer reading. Literature, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, paral- lel reading, and research reports help the student re- ceive a w'ell rounded knowledge of the English lan- guage. In addition to college preparatory English, Practical English and Business English are offered at WHS. Mrs. Mary Frances Parker is the head of the English Department.
