The 1964 Junior Varsity Football Team upheld the winning tradition at W. H. S. by having a successful season. VARSITY Jackie Bishop, Nancy Peurifoy, Gilda Turner, Kay Blocker, NOT PICTURED: Sally Starr, Co-Head Cheerleader. The Student Body of W. H. S. owes a large debt to our varsity cheerleaders. Thanks to them, the spirit here is at the highest in years. Cheering is more than going to all the football games. That is just the glamorous part. The hard work comes in helping with the Booster Club Drive in August, painting football banners for every game, selling tags at the games, practicing every day for weeks on new cheers, and at- tending all other sports events - like the basketball games. To Patsy Easterlin and Sally Starr, our head Louise Williams, Patsy Easterlin, Head Cheerleader. cheerleader and co-head cheerleader, goes a special thanks for their leadership ability on the football field and backstage. To all the cheerleaders, we salute you on a job well done. The Junior Varsity cheerleaders did a good job in cheering the J. V. teams and in helping the Varsity cheerleaders. They helped decorate the goalposts for Homecoming and sold the raffle tickets for the cakes at the basketball games. J. The events are the shot put, discus throw, pole vault, high jump, high hurdles, 100-yard dash, 880-relay, mile run, 220-yard run, 440-yard relay, 440-yard dash, 880-yard relay, and the medley relay. The 1964 track team, coached by Mr. Mike Bindley, had a good season. P. S. : It is generally agreed that Thomas Chapman has the most beautiful lees on the track team. GOLF TEAM The W. H. S. Golf team began its season with a clinic by Mr. Bill Christian, manager of the Wal- terboro Country Club. The team has had matches with neighboring schools at the Walterboro Country Club and on out of town courses. This team has a lot of new talent and should reach its peak in the next two years. With Mr. Christian's help, the team is improving greatly and seems to be more successful than last year's. 78 FIRST ROW: Herman Dantzler, Ricky Ackerman, Pat Me- Whirter, Jimmy Parker. BASKETBALL The 1964 Junior Varsity Basket- ball Team was coached by Coach Wyman Carter, They played nine games - Beaufort, St. George, Wade Hampton, Bells twice, and Stall. Ozbolt, B, Ross, BASEBALL 1964 Gary Crawford, Jimmy White, Bill Phillips, Spikey Simmons, Jimmie Ringer, Kenny Rowe. This year W. H. S. had a truly phenomenal baseball team. Spikey Simmons pitched and Guerry Craw - ford caught. Bill Phillips played first base and right outfield simul- taneously, while Jimmie Ringer held down the left field and the center field positions at the same time. Jimmy White was die third base man and the shortstop, and Kenny Rowe played second base and coached at first and third. Seriously, the baseball team had not been organized when this picture was taken and not all members of die team were pres- ent for the picture. We feel sure, however, our baseball team had a good season. 79 BOYS’ BASKETBALL 196 4 WYMAN CARTER Head Coach Under the direction of Coach Wyman Carter, the boys’ bas- ketball team has improved not only in abilitybut also in spirit. The record is not so good but a great many of the games lost were very close, A better season is expected next year as all players will be returning and the new gymnasium will be com- pleted. Further improvements could be made if people, especially students, would show a little more interest in basketball at W. H. S. The crowds turned out better this year than last, but we still have a long way to go in spirit. FIRST ROW, Left to Right: J. Ringer, T. Chapman, J. Handegan, K. Rowe, E. Bazzle, SECOND ROW: P.
