FOREWORD May Every Thought We Think Today and Everything We Do and Say, Be Worthy of the Folks We Love and Worthy of Our God Above, Amen. This is our school prayer, the prayer with which we honor Godin assemblies, during devotions, or at any time or place. Although we have said these lines many times, we sometimes forget to stop and think what they really mean. Because it is a part of our school life, and because it is interwoven of the very warp and woof of our school days, we have made it the theme of the 196 3 LAIR. MAY EVERY THOUGHT WE THINK TODAY Thoughts are the essence of life. In the thirty hours per week that we spend in the classroom, in the hours at home that we spend in study, in every phase of school activity, thoughts are the guiding lines. AND EVERYTHING WE DO AND SAY . . . . Actions are the result of thoughts, for if thought does not result in action, then thoughts are worthless. Activities are a large portion of school life. There are assemblies - sometimes solemn, sometimes amusing; football, basketball, and baseball games, which add a spark of zest; clubs, which lend the spice variety; and class meetings, class plays, contests, and carnivals to round out the program of activities. BE WORTHY OF THE FOLKS WE LOVE The folks we love give life its sweetness. The members of our families, who do so much for us because they love us; our teachers, who are always willing to help us with our problems; our friends, who make our lives brighter by their presence -- all these we love. AND WORTHY OF OUR GOD ABOVE Our striving to be worthy of our God above gives meaning in the whole fabric of our lives. We honor Him not only in our school prayer, in our daily morning devotions, and in devotions at assemblies and other formal meetings , but also in our attitudes, in our personal creeds , and in our constant effort to live ever better lives. Thus our school prayer embodies our whole selves. It speaks of our mental, physical, social, and spiritual development. As we approach the ending of our high school life, we shall leave the familiar buildings and faces with this prayer in our hearts to give us the courage to meet the new and exciting experiences before us. Through the years we shall never forget our school, the friends we made, the teachers who helped us, and our four wonderful years at Walterboro High School. 2
