l i » Dewey Yarley Historian On Sept, the lltli, 1937 a small crew hoarded a piper cub. For 12 years we traveled in the air of knowledge. Our first pilot-instructor. Mis? Walsh, gave us pre-flight training. Later we shifted to our new flight Commander, Miss Gregg, who entered us in the entertaining air show, Snow White . Other successful shows that we entered were Blue Belt and The Early Bird Gets the Worm”. Miss Kearse, Miss Marbert, Miss Bell, and Mr. Edwards capably navigated us through the remainder of the first half of the trip. In our seventh year, we were slightly separated because of the seventh year flight rules and schedules. By then we were in a speedy P-40. The only regret that we had was that we lost a great number of our crew during the past years, but of course, additional travelers had gladdened our crew. On our last hop members of our crew won many prizes and honors for their excellent ability at the job of guiding our airship along its straight path. Betty Douglas highly honored our class by her becoming State President of The Beta Club in our 11th year. Such members as Rebecca CampMI, Pete Carter, and David Moylan made us very proud by their excellent scores in the state mental contest. Also two of our crew, Rebecca Campbell and Doris Crosby, had the acceptable honor of being elected Miss-Hi-Miss for our Air Base. We were indeed a lucky crew for we were the first outfit to he allowed to make a 12-year trip instead of an 11 year one. For this reason we had one of our members elected president of our base for two consecutive years. Our crew produced such shows as the Senior Follies and the Halloween Carnival in the latter years. We were really flying now for we were in a P-80 and that jet carried us through the trip in real style. When we received our flight papers we felt that we were both sorry and glad our trip was over, but we all knew that the greatest Alight of all now lay be foie us. Itvfnly-sfVfit
