The history began one September day in 1932 when forty- three timid boys and girls clinging to their mothers’ arms entered the first grade to begin the long educational journey which is climaxed this May» Of the twenty-one boys and thirty-nine girls now in our class there are only three boys and ten girls who started the first grade in the Walterboro Elementary School» In 1938 we received our promotion certificates to Junior High» In the exercise Mary Mitchell Sanders received the cit- izenship award» As we entered Junior High School we were joined by many newcomers until our class roll at one time increased to one- hundred and twenty-five members in the eighth grade» During our Junior High School we were engaged in many interesting activities and events» We have tried to carry out the customs and traditions of our High School and feel that we have made a very definite contribution to the life and welfare of the school» We have been particularly active in athletics» The following seniors were on the football team; J» M- Bishop Richard Brown Joe Dodd Ralph Nettles Fletcher Riddle Henry Salter Wightm an Sm o ak Tiller Strickland The following seniors were members of basketball teams; GIRLS Elizabeth Cummings Harriet Fripp Ruth Jaillette BOYS Fletcher Riddle Henry Salter Mary Mitchell Sanders Connie Witsell Wightman Smoak Tiller Strickland We feel that we have done well in our school publications» The WILDCAT staff issued ten publications» Wightman Smoak is editor of our annual THE LAIR and Mary Mitchell Sanders Is editor of our school paper THE WILDCAT»
