SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The history of the Class of ’40 has as its beginning a bright autumn Monday morn- ing,. September 11, 1929. It was a beautiful day, and mothers were bringing little boys and girls down the several streets leading to the old grammar school building—little tots who were totally unaware of the joys and pleasures, sorrows and disappointments that were to greet them during the eleven years of their school life. Slowly and care- fully the new pupils were placed in line, and Miss Ray Miley, first grade teacher, ex- plained that when the bell rang they would march into assembly. Finally the bell did ring and 60 little boys and girls walked into the first grammar school assembly of their Jives. All through the elementary grades the future graduates of ’40 were outstanding. In the sixth grade it had the responsibility of presenting an operetta and leaving a class gift. In the eighth grade it became a part of the first Junior High School in Waiter- boro, and in 1940 it is the first class to graduate after three years of high school work, two years of junior high work, and six years of elementary work. It is our sincerest hope that in years to come we may be able to reward W. H. S. for all its benefits to us.
