WELLBORN HIGH ANNISTON, ALABAMA 1970 PANTHER TRACKS Sponsor---------- Editor-in-chief - Business Manager Assistant Editors - GORDEN MITCHELL - RODNEY PEARCE ---DONNA SELF MIKE PILKINGTON BRUCE WALLACE DONNA BROOKS DEVERY CROW DANNY MILAM MARIE HUBBARD JULIE WADDELL CATHY MITCHELL DEBBY ALBEA RONNIE DRAKE I DEDICATION MRS. ANN HOLBROOK 2 OUR MRS.HOLBROOK Mrs. Ann Bobo Holbrook was born June 21, 1933, in Oxford, Alabama. She attended DeArmanville Elementary School and Oxford High Schoolwhere she was graduated in 1951. Her f|$shman year in college was spent at Jacksonville State University, but she transferred to Howard College (now Samford University) and received her B. S. Degree in 1957. Mrs. Holbrook worked her way through high school and college, first as a waitress in a restaurant, later as a church secretary, then as youth director in several churches. Her schooling was interrupted several times due to the need to work full time in order to get the necessary financial resources to return to school. Throughout all of these years, her ultimate goal was to become a teacher. This goal finally be- came a reality in the fall of 1957, when she began teaching physical education at Southern High School in Louisville. Kentucky. It was the fall of 1958, when Mrs. Holbrook, then Miss Ann Bobo, first came to Wellborn to teach physical education. In August, 1959, she was married to Mr. Finley Holbrook, Jr., a Baptist minister from Kentucky. Mr. and Mrs. Holbrook returned to Louisville where her husband was attending the seminary. After teaching for five years at Southern High School, she returned to Wellborn where she has been teaching for the past six years. The Holbrooks’ have one son, William Mark. Year after year buses empty their loads each morning, and people stream in waves into the hallways and classrooms. To the rhythm of bells, tides of people wash in and out of the rooms and corridors and finally back to the buses, leaving the building empty. Carl Sandburg in his poem ‘‘Skyscraper” says, ‘‘It is the men and women, boys and girls so poured in and out all day that give the building a soul of dreams and thoughts and memories.” As each individual forms a part of the mass, so each personality contributes to the whole of Wellborn’s soul .... that abstract thing we call school spirit. The Panther Tracks Staff presents this abstract collection of people and events which filled our school year. ADMINISTRATION W.H.5. PRINCIPAL MR. HOWARD , JR. I want to express my appreciation to the sponsor and the Panther Tracks’ staff for the the excel- lent job you have done in preparing another fine book. The pictures and events recorded in this book will serve to perpetuate memories of many happy experiences. My sincere thanks go to the faculty for their efforts, patience, and dedication. To our seniors who have contributed so much to our school for the past several years, I wish success in achieving your goals and happiness in the years ahead. MRS. DON FINLEY MRS.
