Gregory, principal WQ K ADMINISTERING To administer a 32,500,000 plant which is spend- ing S425 per student each year and to educate more than 1600 students require leaders who can perform the duties of executive, financier, and educator. Mr. Henry C. Gregory, our principal, and his as- sistants, Mr. William Bennett, Mr. Donald H. Red- dick, and Mr. Arthur E. Spaulding, who joined us mid-year, are in charge of these as well as indispens- able functions connected with discipline. It is re- assuring to know that someone is always on the alert to prevent gum chewing, tardiness, talking, and similar sins of commission. As a result of their sterling performances in this field, it is reported that not one student has missed a class by reason ff'-D Mr. William L. Bennett, vice-principal in g.. ...M Mr. Donald H. Reddick, vice-principal Mrs. Harriet D. Cummins, secretary of being stuck to his desk. Seriously, of course, the main duties performed by these members of the administration include maintaining high standards in the choice of faculty members, responsible usage and care of the school, and those administrative functions necessary to keep the school running smoothly. Another important area of administration- guidance-is carried on by the school counselors, Miss Helen Dempsey, Mrs. Lenore P. Lavery, and Mr. Ray C. Patton. It is their duty, among other things, to help students with any problems they might have. If a student should happen to be so well-adjusted as to have no obvious problems, it is certain that our counselors would be so efficient as to help him find the less obvious ones and then assist him in arriving at a solution. The functions of the administration extends be- yond the basic duties named. Administrative con- cerns are not limited to everyday tasks, but also include such things as encouraging students to Work above their expected achievement levels. Its suc- cess in this area of administration has been proved repeatedly through achievement tests administer- ed to the students at Walter Johnson. High morale and good conduct among the students as Well as a continually rising academic achievement are also among the primary goals of the administration. The success of good directing can be reflected in many Ways. At Walter Johnson, the high caliber of the administration is indicated both by the excellent showing made by students in national competitive tests and also by the record and reputation that grad- uates of Walter Johnson go on to make either in jobs or in college.
