r ' ' . pt. Varsity Football Rig, i J fi A' ' f A rash of mid-season injuries dispelled hopes for another undefeated season for the is-P WJ Football Varsity. The Spartans ended their 9 game slate with a record of 5 wins, 4 losses. 1 After edging Sherwood in the season's opener l4-6, the WJ Eleven smashed North- western 25-7. The Oxon Hill Clippers fell next by a score of 33-l3. October lO saw the Spartans drop their first Varsity Football game in its three year history. After l8 straight 1 3 lr- J - l games, the Green and White lost to a fired-up High Point squad. ln spite of the outstanding performances on the offensive by speedy Bill Grey, Frank Black, and Billy Wootton, the de- fensive ability of Charlie Matthews and Jim Buell, the Spartans lost their next two games to Wheaton and Montgomery Blair. ln No- vember, B-CC got its long awaited revenge for last year's beating by trouncing the Spar- tans 63-O on their home field. In their next and last game of the season with Northwood, the team showed their fighting spirit by coming up from a half-time score of l3-O to defeat their arch-rivals by a score of 2l-l3. ,A Coaching the team this year was J. Paul Miller, who was assisted by James F. Kline. ln the future, with four coaches working with the varsity instead of two, WJ has high hopes of snapping back to another winning season in 159-160, Varsity Football Seated: l-lerny Heller, Tom Brown, Bill Grey, Jim Buell, Bob Prince, Richard King, Charlie Mathews, Mike Kingston, Bill Loving, Jim Gibbons, Harold M cCann , Second row: Neil Donner, Phil Wertlieb, Warren Price, Pete Labovitz, Pete Skogound, Bob Kramp, Sam LoPresti, Carl Woxman, Cornell Dawson, Tom L d, K t We outh, Ken Wright, John Hochstein , , S?anrfgF:1g:C?:rfletonyFl1utchinson, Richard Farr, Paul Norris, John Murdock, Bob Taylor, Frank Black, Dick Dunlop, BBill Wooten, Jack Pollock, Jack Byrd, Jim Miller, Eugene Merryman, Dick Beale, Tim Dugan U W 1113 6 la15'l47IE'.I'.!l1IHtl.'lAII1lI I 4 Lffelv, LT ll C I..
