These carolers, who were members of the French Club, entertain the student body and faculty annually by singing French Christmas Carols. Eating lunch at a French restaurant, turn- ing gourmet to eat Mme. Simone F. Fagg's salad, seeing slides of France, listening to popular French records, and playing games like bingo and scrabble in French were among activities additional to caroling which occu- pied the club. Miss Louise G. Winfield has been French Club sponsor with Mary Lou Ruff, president, Alice Andrews, secretary, and Barbara von Eckardt, treasurer. The Spanish Club Breaking the colorful pinata la bag filled with candies and cakesl was attempted by blindfolded members of the Spanish Club at Christmas time in carrying out an old custom. Activities this year have included listening to speakers, seeing slides and movies as well as playing games, all, of course, in Spanish. Club members have enjoyed seeing a typical South American dance, as performed by the club sponsor, Senora Consuelo S. Eddy, a native of Venezuela. This year the officers were president, Geoffrey Hyde, vice-president, Teddy Kay, secretary, Charlotte Beach, and treasurer, Pat McCurdy. Debating Club Resolved: That America should adopt the essential features of the British school system. In March, a debating team composed of Eugene Denson and William Greenburg suc- cessfully defended the negative side of this issue and went on to score o victory over B-CC. These teams chosen from members of the Debating Club worked on a power system whereby the winning teams continued debat- ing until they lost and were replaced by another team, The Debating Club, sponsored by Russel T Redden, had as its officers Eugene Denson, president, David Karro, vice-president, and Louise Hoch, secretary-treasurer. Library Club The main objective of the Library Club is to promote student interest in the library and to give its members an opportunity to partici- pate in running the library. Under the guidance of Mrs. Dorothy Bryant, the club sponsor, the members receive train- ing in library maintenance. They learn how to use library materials and how to do a large part of the work, such as checking out books and returning books to the shelves. The Club does not limit its activities to activity period, though, for its members are constantly busy before school and during the lunch periods. To organize the work effectively, the Li- brary Club was divided into separate commit- tees. The Desk Committee checked out books and helped keep the records. The Processing Committee worked in the store room, prepar- ing books for the shelves and doing minor repair work. The Shelving Committee cared for the book shelves, the Art Committee pub- licized the library facilities and such events as National Library Week and Book Week, while the Odd Jobs Committee does just what the name implies. Paul Orland headed the Club during the i958-1959 school year. The vice-president was Sally Maury, and Dewey Hart served as treasurer.
