New method is used in choosing office workers Mrs. Arch Anna M. Ashley B.S., M.Ed., UNC-G Clerical Office Practice FSA Advisor Dean of Girls Miss Anna P. Mclver A.B., UNC-G M.R.E., Presbyterian School of Christian Education English, Latin A new method of choosing workers in the attendance office was used this year. Students who wanted a job as an office assistant were given applications and were asked to give the name of one teacher for reference. They also had to tell why they wanted to work in the office, whether they could type, and if they had worked in the office before. The applicants had to give their school attendance record for the past year in order to help Mrs. Ashley and Miss Mclver decide who would make the best assistants. , E, , . Counselors attempt one-to-one relationship theory Stress was placed this year on the theory of a one-to-one relation- ship between the counselor and student which created a better counseling atmosphere. Mr. Wallace, as Senior counselor, was kept busy writing college tran- scripts and recommendations for vocational and college-bound stu- dents. Better equipped library provides excellent facilities With the help of 16 library assis- tants, Mrs. Susan Rankin and Miss Florence Shelbourne worked to make the library at Page better equipped for the students' needs. An addition of 1500 books this year brought the total number of volumes to approximately 14,000. ln addition to books, the library was well supplied with records, films, projectors, and 75 different maga- zines. It was not only adequate for the average student's study needs, but it also provided reading for enjoy- ment. Many students spent lunch hours and study halls using the library facilities.
