Orchestra Perfects Musical Excellence in a Variety of Performances. Da-Da-Da-Dum Mr. Leonard Altieri is the sponsor for this string group whose aim is To promote musical excellence and understanding through the medium of perfor- mances. The orchestra, composed of twenty- two mem- bers, has played in large groups, ensembles, and solos at such functions as P.T.A., club meetings, and autumn and spring concerts. To qualify for membership in the George High Orchestra one must have studied a stringed instru- ment at least one year in elementary school. However, most of the present members have played from two to four years in elementary school. The concertmaster of the orchestra is Nancy Eidson. Principal players are Jeff Lavender on viola, Susan Cages on cello, Wanda Griffin on violin, and Bryan Galloway on bass. The librarian is Eddie Gibbs. The string quartet, a special orchestral group, con- sists of Nancy Eidson, Peggy Patton, Jeff Lavender, and Susan Cages. K 56

Row 3: Bonnie Sims, Linda Pierce, Valencia Milligan, Pam Spears, Gloria Thompson, Diane Miller, Pat Fuller, Libby Gunter. Row 4: Danny Fowler, Leon Crawley, Smitty Stephens, Howard Bixby, Don Burdette, Rickey Lane, Miss Swain. The Music Department of George consists of six choirs. The 8th grade special choir, with President Gay Irwin and Vice-President Mi- chele Bradley, consists exclusively of eighth graders. Choir One officers Gay Bently and Pam Stephens and Choir Three President Susan Shipmen encourage the members of these mixed choirs to outstanding perfor- mances. Sybil Proux is president of Choir Seven, our all-girls choir. Choir Five, com- posed of Upperclassmen, responds to the lead- ership of their President, Cynthia Keen. Choir Nine is the 11th and 12th grades advanced choir with President Judy Sorrow. Frequent trips have kept these choirs busy in the past and will continue to occupy their time this spring. During the Christmas sea- son all choirs participated in the P. T. A. Program and a school-wide assembly. The Girls ' Choir sang at Highview Nursing Home while Choir One traveled to Wesley Woods Apartments, a home for the elderly. Concerts were presented at Lenox Square and Stewart Lakewood shopping centers. Plans for the fu- ture include a variety show in March, a Spring Concert in May, and music programs to be presented at local churches. Row 3: Trudi Glawson, Angela Faucett, Angelica Augustine, Sandra Moseley, Rose Barnett, Vicki Ridling, Jan Finley, Linda Write, Becky Daniel, Denise Jones, Sharon Davis.
