Orchestra Perfects Musical Excellence in a Variety of Performances. Da-Da-Da-Dum Mr. Leonard Altieri is the sponsor for this string group whose aim is To promote musical excellence and understanding through the medium of perfor- mances. The orchestra, composed of twenty- two mem- bers, has played in large groups, ensembles, and solos at such functions as P.T.A., club meetings, and autumn and spring concerts. To qualify for membership in the George High Orchestra one must have studied a stringed instru- ment at least one year in elementary school. However, most of the present members have played from two to four years in elementary school. The concertmaster of the orchestra is Nancy Eidson. Principal players are Jeff Lavender on viola, Susan Cages on cello, Wanda Griffin on violin, and Bryan Galloway on bass. The librarian is Eddie Gibbs. The string quartet, a special orchestral group, con- sists of Nancy Eidson, Peggy Patton, Jeff Lavender, and Susan Cages. K 56

To give recognition to students who exemplify these characteristics, the club plans to purchase honor cords for the graduation ceremony. Mrs. Joyce Hardy sponsors this club, numbering sixty-seven, with the aide of club officers, Danny Paulk, president and Elaine Parker, treasurer.
