Providing students with opportunities to develop an increased sensitivity to the needs of others and an appreciation of what people can do for other people is the High School Red Cross ' sustaining purpose. Many requests for service come to the Red Cross youth from Veterans and Military Hospitals, State and County Hospitals, Children ' s Homes, Homes for the Aged, Day Nurseries and others. By participation in these programs, students have an opportunity to grow in social responsibility and to respond to the needs of others. At George High, the Red Cross Club has made and decorated 50 Christmas stockings for the 36th Evacuation Hospital in Vietnam, made 75 Flash cards for the mentally retarded adults and stuffed 26 animals for the Children ' s Home. The Club is now in the process of making scrap books and will make 100 tote bags for the hospitals. Directing these activities are Barbara Brown- lee, president; Debbie Williams, vice-president; and Gay Irwin, secretary- treasurer. Tote Sags will be distributed to children ' s hospitals throughout the city. Volunteers prepare ma- terial that Red Cross members will make in- to tote bags.
