Future Homemakers of America Domestic Talents Perfected by FHA Members FHA officers Peggy Walker, Debbie Scott, and Marsha Win assist President Elizabeth Horton planning programs. All girls enrolled in Home Economic classes at George were exposed to the Future Homemakers of America club. Those desiring outside work related to home economics became active members of the club. The Simplicity Pattern fashion show pre- sented club members with ideas and inspiration for future individual projects. Home Economics students in the 8th, 9th and 10th were models of the new spring fashions. As a service project, the club contributed a bush to the beautify the school campaign. The money was raised by sponsoring a dance in the fall. Simplicity ' s Tape Measure Fashion ' s ap- peal to George future homemakers. 40

During Safety Week, the Safety Club tried to reduce hazards and make students and te achers safety conscious. Their poster contest and slogan campaign involved all homerooms. President Lynne Mathews, vice-president Genie Wise, recording secretary Barbara Len- derman, corresponding secretary Theda Bern- ard, and treasurer Peggy Patton, along with their sponsor, Mr. Epps, have worked to en- large their membership to fifty. These mem- bers are students from all grade levels who are interested in safety at George High and the surrounding community. 39

Future Teachers of America Participate in District and State Conventions F.T.A. members enjoy refreshments at a regular monthly meeting which feature speakers in the field of education. The Walter F. George Chapter of the Fu- ture Teachers of America has had a busy year. The officers of this active group are Laura Buckner, president; Nilda Soto, vice-president; and Joyce Jones, secretary-treasurer. Some of the numerous activities in which the F.T.A. has participated involved other chapters of the F.T.A. They again took part in the Fifth District Convention which was held in November with the George Chapter in charge of registration. Cindy Lance was nominated for vice-director of this convention. The George F.T.A. won the attendance prize which was a free trip to the state convention. In February members Nilda Soto, David Hughes, Pam Spears, and Laura Buckner with advisers Miss Evelyn Cawthon and Mrs. Ce- leta Fairley attended this state convention at Rock Eagle.
