Big new things are in the offing for Walter George according to the Junior Civitan. These innovations in- clude a cinder track for the field and glass backboards for the gym. Money for these projects has been saved through previous years but Christmas fruit cakes will be sold to attain extra funds. Civitan initiated a large group of forty-five at its traditional fall activity at Perkerson Park. In order to become a member, one must be a junior or senior with a C average or better. Coach Tom Harmon is the faculty advisor for the Walter F. George Junior Civitan. The Airport Civitan Club sponsors this chapter. Civitan members consume left-over fruit cake from Christmas campaign sales.

Student Council Adds New Projects to Traditional Activities This year ' s Student Council has continued to sponsor its traditional programs. These activities include the Homecoming Dance and Homeroom Thanksgiving Bas- kets. Increased emphasis was placed on class projects. The 9th grade successfully completed a Keep the Cafeteria Clean week. The 10th grade supported Feed a Friend, a branch of the Ira Jarrell Milk Fund. The 11th grade initiated a paper sale. And the 12th grade ' s project was a Toys for Tots Campaign. Various new activities accentuated the traditional ones. The Student Council selects monthly a teacher who has contributed to school functions. The first to receive the honor, Teacher of the Month, was Mr. Gus Peterson, a new art teacher at George. Care packages sent to Vietnam and the opening soc hop, in honor of the football team, were also among the additions to the regular program. The Student Council is composed of gradewide officers and homeroom presidents. To qualify for gradewide offices, candidates must make speeches before their class or student body and must have a B average. Selections are made by each grade for gradewide offices and by the student body for school wide offices. Student Council inducts eighth grade officers.

The club is a chapter of National Co-Ed-Hi-Y and is under the supervision of Pate Bridges, YMCA director. The club has directed a clothing drive at school for needy families in the area. Volunteers canvassed for the March of Dimes as well as helping implement the Viet- nam Christmas Cards project. A delegation for the George Club participated in the Hi-Y Breakfast at the Americana Motor Hotel preceding the Youth assembly. Members are eagerly anticipating the annual spring trip to Camp Waco. This meeting will now come to order, directs Co-Ed-Hi-Y President Lynn Nelson.
